About Renn Skye
I have been DMing since 3.5 was released by WotC, and am familiar with DnD, Pathfinder, ShadowRun and Vampire the Masquerade as well as being proficient with homebrewing. I’m a child of the Cloud Kingdom Game’s founders and am familiar with all their systems as well, and am working on getting accredited in Therapeutic Game Mastering from Geek Therapeutics so I handle sensitive topics at my table well

I became a GM because
I love crafting compelling story skeletons that flesh out under the exploratory play of the people at my table. I don’t think anything is quite so fulfilling as building up to emotionally driven moments of character growth and seeing the play run wild with it.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Paranoia (because it’s honestly just a ridiculous good time every time we play), 7th Sea (because I love the secret societies SO MUCH) and… either Pathfinder or DnD 5e (because I love high fantasy settings but know both well enough to homebrew around their limitations)
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Inventive, inclusive, and adaptable. (When asked players from my current table said ‘why aren’t fun and creative on here, too?’ and couldn’t narrow it down from five)
How Renn Skye runs games
I love making character driven campaigns that highlight personal development of the pc’s interspersed throughout the overarching quest. I will usually custom tailor games to fit character arcs and backstory themes. I come from a family of riddlemasters and chess champions so expect custom written riddles and thought provoking puzzles along with high risk high reward combat. I allow for rule of cool whenever possible and reward creative problem solving and role playing to achieve ends as much as I reward good dice rolls, if not more so. Expect story and character driven plots with milestone based leveling to better encourage players to interact with their world rather than having to grind for new abilities. I like to reward my players with loot, items, and levels so I can hit you harder and you can hit back just as effectively.

My games focus on...
the players! My plots are built around PC backstories and character arcs with grand tie ins to pull it all together for a proper ‘questing’ vibe. I like to emphasize my players more than my npcs, and help them grow along the journey - I find it just as important as the destination, if not more so.
Rules are...
adaptable and meant to serve the story we’re co-writing together, not constrain it. I’m a little fast and loose with them and try to bend them to make sessions fun not frustrating when necessary.
When it comes to voices
I prefer to have them for the whole table, but don’t have hard rules for players having a character voice and an OOC voice. I will give the npcs you encounter voices…. And I’ll try to not make them all very, very Scottish haha.
Renn Skye's ideal table
Players who appreciate satisfying story beats over loot and leveling (though there is always fun loot!) will find my table more satisfying. I try to provide a good balance of combat, puzzles, and roleplay opportunities through the course of a campaign, but sometimes sessions can focus more on one of those three areas than the others depending on how into each my players are. I run a session zero first or reach out to each potential player to see what they are hoping to get out of a campaign, and build my overall plotline around those answers, and try to prep my sessions with player preferences in mind so if I have a group who says ‘please gods no riddles just let me kill it’ you’ll get a more combat heavy campaign, and if I have a group that says ‘all I want is to play in a sandbox and know the whole world’ it’s going to be more roleplay heavy. I ask that you be open with me with what you want, and let me know what is and isn’t working for you so that I can adapt to make the best experience possible for all seated around me.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Character development, emotional honestly, roleplaying, and tear jerking moments.
I love it when a player
gives me ‘knives’ in their backstory. A knife is any character or item with significance to your character that is still around/living/potentially surfacable in-game. Give me knives so I can stab you later! I also love it when a player lets me know their limits so I can make the table safe for all
I think min/maxing...
isn’t as much of a red flag as people make it out to be. Sometimes it’s fun to fail, and min/maxing lets us fail /hard/ (and succeed hard at what matters to a character). It has its place and I’m not against it, just… give me reasons why your int is a 6 and your strength is 18 yknow?
