About Senryu
GMing is like cooking. There are many flavors and many chefs. Not every chef makes a dish for every person. I have been running games since March 2015. I started with D&D3.5 and have been through many other systems since then. I like both combat and roleplaying. My longest running game was a World of Darkness game that's story lasted three years, but only saw two major combats. I personally would have liked more combat, but my players wanted to focus on roleplaying and mystery and that's what they found. Some settings that I really gravitate towards are Eberron and Warcraft. I also enjoy basing campaigns of various anime that I've watched. Mostly I run settings of my own making though. I tend to let my players have a ton of agency in my games and let them guide the story and have the world revolve around them. That's not to say I don't know how to throw a mystery or twist at them to lead them towards some main story points every so often. A good game should roleplay downtime and build character relations. Your characters should mean something to you beyond just numbers on a page.

I ran my first game...
I ran my first game around 5/10/15. I had no idea what i was doing and ended up invited 10 people to play at some point. That was way too hectic! I've learned a lot since then.
My favorite shows/movies are
My favorite shows are The Venture Bros, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Futurama, and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I am enjoying Dan da Dan and the new Ghost in the Shell.
When I'm not running games I'm...
When I'm not a forever GM, I like to play video games like Stellaris, Rimworld, or Crusader Kings 3. I also play Warhammer 40k: Darktide and Peak when i can round up a few friends. Other times I am catching up on shows! I've been really enjoying anime this season!
How Senryu runs games
I love roleplaying whenever possible. My longest running game was nearly 375 hours of roleplaying and mystery to 24 hours of combat by the conclusion. However, I also love combat. Sometimes nothing beats just crawling through a dungeon and not knowing if the next room has riches or danger. I love heroic combat moments and creative problem solving. When running something like pathfinder or D&D, I frequently run the gestalt rule and let people basically combine two classes at the same time. I always give maximum health and tell my players that the enemies will be just as tough if they choose to fight. I also really like survival games. Be it survival crafting or survival horror. Players really enjoyed my zombie horror survival in Call of Cthulhu.

I deal with rules issues by...
Usually I let a rule slide and someone looks it up while we keep going. If they find it fast enough we change the ruling, but if not we just make a note of it and try to remember next time.
My favorite trope is...
My favorite trope is the super hero dilemma. Do you save the person you care about the most or sacrifice them to save the world? How far will you go to break that choice and have both?
My games focus on...
My games focus on heroes beating the odds even when they are stacked against them. Sometimes this is combat and other times the story alone can be demanding!
Senryu's ideal table
My games are like bowling nights. People show up for some light hearted fun, have a few beverages of their choice. We play the game, sometimes getting really passionate, but sometimes also just end up making jokes and talking in between turns.

I am for a vibe that's...
My vibe is intense story/action, but chill. I run games like hanging out with friends at a bowling alley. It can get intense, but it's all for fun; have a few drinks and make a few jokes, maybe even tell some stories!
I think it's a red flag when players...
It's a big red flag when players try to plot against each other. The characters might not always get along, but characters shouldn't steal from each other unless the players are cool with it.
I think metagaming...
I think metagaming outside the game is fine. Just remember you and your character aren't the same person. Try to keep your knowledge separate and I'll try to keep you, the player, in the loop of things your character might know that you don't.
