About Peter Sapperlot
Hi, I’m Peter. An instigator of mirth and mischief. Are you curious about an exciting new rpg system? Do you want to explore an intriguing setting or world? The right time is now. Contact me for your custom game! I have experience running more than a dozen game systems. I am an educator and patient teacher. I have yet to reach the limits of my imagination. You don’t know the rules? I get you up to speed. You are a veteran of your favorite game system? Let’s explore new depths together. I love variety in my games. I have theory-crafted in D&D. I have crunched the numbers in Pathfinder. Over the years though, it were the rules light, narrative-focused systems that grew on me. Consequently, collaborative storytelling is the main focus of my games. As a player in my table, your ideas and choices are the clay from which our game worlds are shaped. Sapperlot Lore For the past decade, I’ve been traveling the world and teaching a joyful mishmash of subjects. Acting classes in Bishkek, Kirghistan. Politics 101 in Moscow, Russia. Scientific writing in Frankfurt, Germany. Now, I teach people their new favorite ttrpg systems. I started GMing for my high school friends many, many moons ago. A few years ago, I discovered the joy of GMing at conventions. So far, I’ve run about 50 one shot games at events of all stripes and sizes. I’ve run games in all kinds of systems. From D&D to Daggerheart. From SciFi to Eldritch Horror. Player feedback was astonishingly enthusiastic and positive. Thus, I thought to myself: I should do this more often. So here I am. When I am not GMing, I listen to music for most of my waking hours. Currently in heavy rotation are, among others, the Dire Straits; Nine Inch Nails; Florence & the Machine; and Faderhead. Things I enjoy a little too much for my own good: video games, political commentary, Magic the Gathering, chocolate. Maybe I’ll see you at my next table? Stay curious and never stop learning! Where does the name ‘Sapperlot’ come from? ‘Sapperlot’ is an old-timey German way of expressing surprise or amazement, like ‘Blimey!’ in British, or ‘Holy Smokes!’ in American English.

My favorite books are
Michael Ende - The Neverending Story Terry Pratchett - Monstrous Regiment Juliett E. McKenna – The Thief’s Gamble David Graeber - Debt. The First 500 Years
My favorite system of all Time is
Currently? Candela Obscura. I love me a flawed rules system with dense, evocative flavor! (The Electric State was a second candidate here.) Candela adds a neat innovation (Drives) to the core mechanic of Blades in the Dark to play up the suspense of the setting. I also like its simplifications.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Patient, Energetic, Imaginative
How Peter Sapperlot runs games
Trust To me, roleplaying is an exercise in trust – among players but also between a GM and their players. I want to create worlds that encourage exploration, creativity and curiosity – not suspicion and paranoia. Generosity I give freely. Information. Advice. Loot, of course. Diversity Discrimination adds nothing to my sense of realism. If my medieval fantasy setting can include monsters and magic, it can also include equal rights. I welcome all identities at my table. Possibilities There is combat and conflict in my games, but violence is not the default solution to every problem.

I once ran a session...
..that got derailed by players before I even set the first scene. After character selection for a Heart one shot, I briefly left the table. Left to their own devices, the players decided they wanted to start the classic way: in a tavern. I had no tavern prepared. We played a game in a cursed tavern.
Rules are...
... guidelines for creative expression. ... not the main dish. ... something I like to know before I break them.
When it comes to voices
I revel in bringing a varied cast of NPC characters life.

I am for a vibe that's...
... inclusive, ... trusting ... collaborative.
I love it when a player
embraces ideas provided by another player. I enjoy my tables the most when players keep bouncing ideas of each other.
I think it's a red flag when players...
... are domineering. ... belittle others to boost their own ego. ... can't allow their characters to have or show weaknesses. ... want to win at ttrpgs.
