About DM Sablemane
“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” -Philip Pullman Hello! Thank you for stopping by. I am Jason, and I have been a passionate participant in the TTRPG scene for as long as I can remember. I've run and played in countless games over the years, from my very first taste of Dungeonmastering with Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition, to mastering my friend Pan Whitesell's homebrewed system, to running Dungeons & Dragons 3.5e. I was delighted to learn that my fencing coach was a Rifts GM, and subsequently dipped my toe into the expanding world of TTRPGs beyond D&D. I've tried Fate, Mouse Guard RPG, Kids on Brooms, Pathfinder, and more, and have most recently found myself returning to my roots with Dungeons and Dragons 5th (now 5.5th!) edition. As an enthusiastic Dungeonmaster with over two decades of experience, it is a philosophy of both fun and self-expression that drives me to craft the settings and narratives my players experience and share. TTRPGs are more than just a game; they are a means of exploring the heroes within ourselves. They are adventures of camaraderie and found family, of danger and sacrifice, of triumph and daring, all at a table with like-minded companions. Everyone has a story to tell, and TTRPGs help Dungeonmasters like myself facilitate that story. That's what I love the most about what I do. I bear the torch of narrator, supporting actor, monster, and villain, and I do it with delight and pride because it gives my players the chance to discover and weave their tales into a shared storytelling experience. My table welcomes all players, from novice dreamers to veteran heroes, to band together in the spirit of adventure and share their stories with one another. I believe that TTRPGs should be a haven for those who seek it, a place of creativity, inclusivity, and compassion. So, I invite you to join me! Look inside yourself and dare to wonder: what stories do you have to tell?

I got started GMing...
When I was fourteen, I was in my favourite haunt: the bookstore. There, I stumbled across the 3rd Edition D&D books, and was immediately enamored. However, it was hard to find someone among my peers interested in running a game, so I took it upon myself to give it a try and fell in love with DMing!
My favorite books are
I love reading and have devoured books like "House of Leaves", "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell", and "Kafka on the Shore". One of the most impactful series I read in my youth was Elizabeth Moon's "The Deed of Paksenarrion", and to this day I see the heroine of it as the quintessential paladin!
How DM Sablemane runs games
As your Dungeonmaster, I aim to present you with a living world to explore. Whether we are exploring homebrew settings or published modules, the world flows around you as you move through it. Your stories are threads from which a tapestry of tales can be woven, together. In being mindful of each player's enjoyment, I seek to balance each game with a mixture of exciting combat, intriguing social roleplay, and gritty exploration. Whether you enjoy big, crunchy numbers or subtle political maneuvers, my games will have something for you. Campaigns will typically open with a Session 0 to help flesh out characters, go over rules, answer questions, and discuss expectations. I believe strongly in open communication, and am happy to provide a safe space in which any and all inquiries are welcome. I encourage players to test the boundaries of their creativity as well as my own! I don't believe in railroading characters into a story arc, and that the best sandbox experience is crafted by the people who bring and share toys to play with in it. At the end of the day, TTRPGs are games of choice-driven narratives. And I can't wait to see how your choices play out!

Rules are...
...meant to improve the gameplay experience, not detract from it. Rules and rulings should be flexible to best contribute to player enjoyment, but one must remember that creativity thrives within appropriate boundaries, not simply being able to do whatever!
