About Ry-Guy

Hello, everyone! My name is Ryan, and I am obsessed with D&D. I am a professional illustrator and improviser based in Los Angeles. I started my D&D career as a player about a year ago and instantly fell in love with this game, and I decided that the best way to share my enthusiasm was to start being a GM. I will be using these unique abilities to draw people to D&D and show them why it is the greatest game ever created.

I became a GM because

I love improv and collaborative storytelling. My first game was with a friend and fellow improviser who is a professional GM. He asked me to be on his live-streamed game. I instantly fell in love. 6 months later, I GM'ed my first game.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Drawing or thinking about D&D while drawing.

How Ry-Guy runs games

Because of my improv background (15+ years), my GM style leans heavily into the storytelling and roleplaying aspect of the game, and I encourage my players to do the same. I'm not expecting professional-level acting here, I just think creating a character is what makes this game so special. There is no judgment in my games. Try new stuff! Don't like your character's voice? Change it. If your character is not fun to play for some reason, let's work on it together. I am a long-time improvisor who will keep the game entertaining and flowing seamlessly. From NPC interactions to cinematic fight scenes, the story we tell together will be epic. All I ask is that my players try. My favorite improv saying is, "Leap and the net will appear!" While I love playing in person, I have found the digital space to be just as fun. I try to make my virtual tables feel like real ones. I have tried many VTTs and have found that the simpler, the better. We come here to tell stories together, not to play a co-op video game, so I try to keep the technology as hidden as possible. Imagining a giant fireball destroying a monster is way more satisfying than clicking a button and seeing a fire gif animate over a token. The main thing I ask of my players is to just have fun. Time is our most precious commodity, and I respect that. The fact that my players are spending 2-4+ hours per game means a lot to me, and I will make that time spent well worth it. I use safety tools, and I am available via Discord and email for any problems, questions, or concerns you may have. Feel free to contact me at any time during and after the game. Wow, you made it to the bottom. You get a +1 in Constitution. Lastly, I'd like to say this. I try my best to make whatever game I am running feel like we all went on a great storytelling journey together. When my players leave, I want them to feel that their time was well spent and that they look forward to coming back!

Ry-Guy's ideal table

I encourage all my players to try new things. Try a voice or simply make a decision or action that your character would make. I am "Rule of Cool" 1000%. I don't actively try to break the game, but if you wanna try to do a cool/creative thing, I will not hesitate to let you try and let the dice tell the story. There isn't a session that goes by that doesn't have laughs in it. I take the game and lore seriously, but when you're acrobatic Rouge tries to jump over a chair and you roll a nat 1...well, something funny is going to happen. I love having brand new players and vets alike at my table. I like players looking for something new and exciting. A safe place to experiment with characters and to have fun playing the greatest game ever created. No, not Candyland...D&D.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Character and Improv.

I love it when a player

Tries something outside the box. Something creative that challenges me as a GM to make the game more interesting.

My table is not the place for...

Judgment and telling other players how to play their own characters.
