About Matt

I've been playing D&D 5e since 2019 (mostly as the "forever DM"), averaging 3 - 4 sessions per week (literally hundreds of sessions and/or thousands of hours) for multiple groups independently. I have experience running games for kids 9 - 18, adult groups, and even groups of individuals on the Autism Spectrum. I tend to run a "PG-13 leaning rated R" game that is geared more towards a slightly faster action pace while still leaving room for roleplay. As a DM, I provide full access to all content I have in D&D Beyond and use a mix of D&D Beyond Maps and Roll 20 (depending what might work best for the session). I put homebrew touches on the WoTC modules so even if you've played it or ran it as GM yourself, it will be different with me. I use your background and like to weave pieces into the storyline to make it personal for you as the player and your character. I use safety tools and provide a SAFE SPACE for ALL. ALL are welcomed at my table.

How Matt runs games

I tend to run a "PG-13 leaning rated R" game that is geared more towards a slightly faster action pace while still leaving room for roleplay. I would say 60% action-pace / 40% roleplay. As a DM, I provide full access to all content I have in D&D Beyond and use a mix of D&D Beyond Maps and Roll 20 (depending on what might work best for the session). I put homebrew touches on the WoTC modules so even if you've played it or ran it as DM yourself, it will be different with me. I deal with rules issues by...

hearing all sides, making a ruling and moving on. Post session, I may openly discuss the ruling and how to rule it more officially moving forward (as to not take away time at the table but circling back to get on the same page)

I prep by

When running a publish module, I make subtle adjustments and tweaks to avoid being "straight by the book" - to avoid players looking playing with spoilers.

Rules are...

A guide and mainly followed, but sometimes narrative wins out

Matt's ideal table

My tables are mostly loose and fun. As a GM, I am not out to unalive your PC. I want you to feel the danger when its narratively appropriate, and the threat of character death is there, but I let the dice and the players narrative tell the story. Rule lawyers should likely avoid my table, as I often will deeply the "Rule of Cool" when it suits the narrative or plot. I don't like wasting a ton of your game time on rule debates, we are playing a game after all. I like to make quick, logical judgments to keep things moving. Just come with an open mind, ready to laugh and loosen up with each other!

My perfect party mix is

Don't underestimate the amount of damage spellcasters can put out. Also, make sure someone in the party has an ability or spell that helps with healing.
