About Rodrigo
Hello! I'm Rodrigo, a veteran Game Master with nearly four decades of TTRPG experience. I started playing 39 years ago and found my true calling as a Keeper for Call of Cthulhu back in 1994. Based in Vancouver, BC, I'm deeply invested in our local hobby. I proudly serve on the board of directors for the Trumpeters Tabletop Games Society, a non-profit club dedicated to building a great community for gamers. My GM Philosophy: Fair, Creative, Narrative My goal as a GM is to facilitate your story. I'm not an antagonist; I'm here to build suspense and reward your exploration with big reveals and "aha!" moments. I love seeing players grab the reins and drive the game. Expect rich descriptions, props, and handouts to pull you into the world. I thrive on long-form storytelling and have run epic 2-year campaigns driven by deep plot twists and collaborative world-building. My Experience & Specialties My toolkit is broad. I have extensive experience running: - D&D 5th Edition - Call of Cthulhu (Classic & Pulp) - Mothership - MÖRK BORG & Cy_Borg - Dungeon Crawl Classics & Mutant Crawl Classics - Pendragon - Rivers of London I also have a special passion for narrative wargames like The Silver Bayonet and Bolt Action. If you're looking for an experienced, story-focused GM dedicated to creating a memorable game, I look forward to rolling dice with you!

How Rodrigo runs games
At my table, you can expect a game driven by Exploration and Roleplay, with combat serving as a vital, but not singular, element. Player agency is paramount. Your choices will fundamentally impact the main plot and the world around you. You are the heroes, unraveling mysteries and discovering truths, but the world doesn't wait. Time keeps moving, and your decisions (or indecisions) will have consequences, leading to organic, evolving narratives. While I know the rules well, I champion the "Rule of Cool." If a clever, plausible idea makes for a great story moment, we'll make it work with an easy roll. Not every plan needs to be perfect; improvisation and creative problem-solving are highly encouraged. I aim for a light but immersive tone, where suspense and even absurd scenes can spark laughter, but the table can also lean into serious moments when the story demands. My games maintain a middle-of-the-road pace – quick when action is hot, detailed and deliberate during investigations or character beats. I'm looking for players who love collaborative storytelling and discovery. If you're a power-gamer, solely focused on combat, or someone who seeks the spotlight at the expense of others, my table might not be the best fit. I prefer a balance of everything, fostering a supportive, engaging atmosphere for all. Join me for a memorable adventure where your choices truly matter!

I deal with rules issues by...
I deal with rule issues by making a quick, sensible ruling on the fly, testing it immediately. If it works, it's incorporated; if not, we check and adjust later. I prioritise the Rule of Cool for narrative flow. When no rules exist, I create a fair on-the-fly ruling, using my experience from other g
My games focus on...
My games focus on Exploration (of worlds/themes), impactful Decision Making (consequences matter), and boosting Creative Thinking (unique solutions). The primary rule is simple: Make everyone have a good time by empowering players and facilitating memorable shared stories.
Rules are...
meant to be interpreted by the GM/players to fit the narrative and intent. They are fun when they frame challenges and define risks. Rules are a tool, not a shackle; they provide shared language (like DC's and AC) to enable collaborative storytelling, not restrict imagination.
Rodrigo's ideal table
My table is collaborative and proactive. I seek players who are not afraid to act, ask questions, and poke around in the world. We highly value co-narration, helping others, and creative input (world-building and solutions). The vibe is rules-flexible (Rule of Cool prevails) and focused entirely on having a good time telling shared, memorable stories. No rules-lawyers needed!

I love it when a player
I love it when a player explores and actively asks questions about the world. I celebrate those who go beyond what's described, using creative solutions. Players who help maintain the mood (e.g., tension, humour) and prioritise fun are the best. Their curiosity and enthusiasm fuel the game!
I think metagaming...
I think metagaming is boring because it undermines discovery and challenge. It severely breaks immersion for everyone at the table. When I detect metagaming, it usually pulls out sarcasm in my answers, as I try to gently redirect the focus back to in-character
My perfect party mix is
achieved when every player is comfortable and confident with their character's role. I love when the weird and the strange mix, producing surprising, emergent results. Crucially, the party thrives when strengths and weaknesses are equally important, encouraging teamwork and creative problem-solving.
