I got started GMing...
After I bought the original red box, I started running my friends through The Keep on the Borderlands.
People are always surprised when I tell them
I have multiple references to my work on TVTropes.org.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Prepping games, writing games, or occasionally playing a game.
How Robert runs games
I tend to run deeply story-driven games; in fact, I'm often brought into cons to teach story to new writers. It’s my instinct to be fairly RP heavy, but I understand that not every gamer is a frustrated theater kid. I’m used to working with all styles of players, from the RP-heavy to the tactician to the quiet. Neurodivergent players welcome.

I once ran a session...
...In Ravenloft, where things got so intense, one of the players put a fist through the wall. That isn’t a brag, that’s a warning. Don’t let things get to the point of property damage.
Rules are...
There to support the story, not the other way around.
When it comes to voices
I love a good character voice. I’m not a bad actor, but I won’t be able to pull off the level of voices and accents you might find in a Brandon Lee Mulligan or Matt Mercer. Still, I try to give every character a voice in the writing sense, even if nothing grabs me in the voice-acting sense.
Robert's ideal table
I like a jovial, friendly table where people prioritize fun over grind. I like running horror, but I will always be a little hampered by my need to make a joke. I’m a professional humorist, so I fall back on that skill when I need to entertain and my quiver is empty.

I am for a vibe that's...
a mix of relaxed, funny, and heroic. When I used to run the pirate game, Run Out the Guns! at cons, my number one goal was to get a player standing on a chair, giving a speech, with a pantomimed drink in their hand. Once I’d accomplished that, the game basically ran itself.
If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Joy and laughter, sprinkled with moments of epic drama.
I love it when a player
Surprises me. Honestly, I love it when anything surprises me. I didn’t like running 4e very much, but I LOVED playing it because of the unique monster abilities. Every battle was a puzzle, and it’s the only game I’ve played as an adult where I was genuinely surprised in combat.
