About Rich

Hey there! I usually go by Rich or Friedrich online; I'm a European Dungeon Master with a lot of experience under my belt; my game of choice is 5th Edition D&D, the 2014 ruleset, because I like the flexibility it affords me and because by now I know it backwards and forwards. I'm LGBTQ+ and would like to foster open and welcoming groups for all folks. I love all facets of TTRPG, but if I had to rank them, I'd say I like roleplay first, combat second, and exploration third.

I got started GMing...

years ago, when, after months of trying to find a game for myself and my friends, I grew frustrated and decided to run it. I was instantly hooked; a whole new world had opened up for me. Playing, I always felt constrained by the limits of the game. But as GM, those limits became clay to mold worlds.

How Rich runs games

I love roleplay first of all, it's how I got started on TTRPGs in the first place, and it's the only part of the game that absolutely never gets stale for me; a combat can run too long, no matter how well built; exploration can drag, no matter how interesting the place; but good roleplay? I can enjoy that for hours on end and still want more. I love all the aspects of TTRPG, and I can run a mean combat, but the stories and relationships of the PCs are to me the real core of the experience, and definitely the parts I focus on the most.

I deal with rules issues by...

addressing the issue in the moment, as fairly and expediently as I can; then, after session, I am happy to entertain any questions or issues with my ruling. I am perfectly capable of making wrong calls, especially in the heat of the moment, and I'm always open to discussion, when there's time.

My games focus on...

character-driven story arcs, as they fit in the overarching storyline. I will modify and change the story to make sure each player has the space to explore their character and the way they tie into the rest of the world. The more you give me to work with, the better the stories I can help you tell!

Rich's ideal table

I like maintaining a relaxed table; I don't mind jokes and bits, and I'm confident in my ability to keep a table on task when it should prove necessary. I like players who take the game seriously and respect everyone else's time and commitment, but I understand and appreciate that at the end of the day people are here to have fun. On the game side, I like to run roleplay-heavy games; I run combat, and a fair bit of it, but if you come expecting a wargame you may be disappointed.
