About Jeff
My first game ever was as a GM for a solo player, and I've been running games ever since (the mid-1980s). To me, TTRPG's are an art form, and one unlike any other. I put time and effort into my games. I love fantasy, sci-fi, horror films and TV, Star Wars, Peter Jackson's Lord of The Rings, Alien/Aliens, The Ninth Gate, and The Thing are my favorite films. Although my preference is for gritty, serious toned fantasy, I'm not above a classic D&D dungeon romp from time to time.

How Jeff runs games
As a GM, I am very chill, and despite the dark themes I often embrace in my games, I realize that always losing is not fun. I am always on the side of the players, having fun, and the story, despite wanting the characters (and players) to "feel the fear" on occasion. I lean toward roleplay, but also love a good combat and try to present opportunities for conflict wherever it makes sense. That said, it completely varies by what system or setting we are playing in, as I find each has a preferred tone baked in. My games often have less encounters than some, but target quality of over quantity. I enoy to voicing NPCs and do a wide range of accents and styles of speaking. I love setting a strong mood and often narrate combat with vivid and often visceral details. I am always striving to create a vivid cinematic narrative experience, and feel like games should be an 'experience'. My personal theme preferences are for slow-burn, intense at times, grounded mix of dark gritty low fantasy settings, gritty sci-fi or post apocalyptic tones, and horror. In fact, even my non-horror games, usually contain some amount of horror elements. I feel the fantastic or wondrous stands out more when surrounded by the believable, that heroes stand out against dark themes. I also feel that telling a great story takes time and attention to detail. All that said, I've been doing this a long time, and can adapt to match the overall group vibe, and sometimes like to run something different from my norm for a change of pace.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Peter Jackson, John Carpenter, Irvin Kershner, James Cameron, Robert Rodriguez, Clive Barker, Robert Eggers, and a little Quentin Tarantino.
My favorite trope is...
If I had to pick one? Chuluesque eldritch horror would likely be at the top. I have a soft spot for heroes struggling against insurmountable mind-melting horrors from beyond time and space.
My games focus on...
A good story, atmosphere, creeping dread, tension, cinematic moments. I strive to push for as much of a feel of grounded verisimilitude as can be achieved in a game where dice rolling and making stuff up can muster.
Jeff's ideal table
There's always room at my table for serious role-players, and those with a willingness to let things unfold as they will and embrace the consequences of collaborative storytelling. Power fantasy isn't my preferred tone, nor are goofy character names, or over the top play styles that don't fit into the themes of the worlds I craft. Unless that the point of the game I am running, and sometimes it is. I like making people feel like they are living in a real, detailed world space whenever possible, filled with small grounding details, and real story consequences. Dark themes, gritty details, and slow-burn ramping dread are my bag, though with the occasional in game comedic moments let tensions breathe. I always to collaborative, and work my players ideas into the mix, and I will always take the time to help your character fit into my worlds in the best manner as possible.

I love it when a player
Gets immersed in their character and the world, acting through the lens of the characters viewpoint. Does their best to leave modernism's, modern day viewpoints and terms out of in-character dialogue and decision making whenever possible.
I think min/maxing...
is fine within reason, and in certain systems (Pathfinder 2e...ahem) optimal if you want have a character to survive. Obvious attempts to "break the system", exploit overpowered broken builds and game mechanics, or similar nonsense will not be accepted.
My table is not the place for...
Any kind of abuse against others (outside of in game character driven conflicts), real world politics, actively looking for things to be offended about, or any other attitudes that blatantly seek to get in the way of telling a good story... we are all here to have fun.
