About Quentin GM

I'm a storyteller-first GM with a dramatic edge and a love for the weird that can come from exploring the decisions made at the table. Expect rich character arcs, morally grey decisions, and probably a few weird names. I bring a mix of improvisation and structured planning, tailored to player input. I don’t railroad, but I do drop breadcrumbs. I value character-driven narratives, emergent moments, and creating emotional stakes that actually stick.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Dungeons and Dragons 5e for sure, Followed closely by FFG's Dark Heresy 2nd edition And when I get sick of those go with the classic Fate Core. You can do anything with that.

People are always surprised when I tell them

How much of a session was improvised compared to planned ahead of time.

When I'm not running games I'm...

A writing consultant at my university, working on my English degree.

How Quentin GM runs games

I focus on narrative-first, character-driven campaigns with a strong sense of tone. I love when sessions feel cinematic, like everyone is part of an unfolding myth or tragic play—sometimes dark, sometimes hilarious, often both. I’m collaborative, not adversarial. I reward creativity, bold choices, and emotional engagement over min-maxing. I tend to run games with moral complexity, recurring themes, and consequences that matter. If you make a deal with a devil, expect to hear from them again. If you spare a villain, expect them to grow. I run NPCs like real people with goals, contradictions, and arcs of their own. I use mechanics to heighten the drama, not to get in the way of it. House rules are used sparingly and always in service of fun or flavor. Roleplay is king, exploration is encouraged, and combat is meaningful. You don’t need to be a voice actor or a lore expert. Just bring a character you care about—I’ll make sure they get a story worth telling.

I deal with rules issues by...

What the rules intend, I see no problem with people trying to use the verbage to fit their needs, but I also know where to tow the line.

I once ran a session...

Where I had no prep ready at all, and I had to draw everything up. It got quite experimental, but my players told me they wanted more.

I prep by

Reading character sheets and thinking about how I can fill the world with pieces of your character's everyday life.

Quentin GM's ideal table

My ideal table would simply be a group of people ready to work together and make jokes and banter.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Disco Elysium. I've always prioritized character based stories, and this game was a huge inspiration in my method for that.

I love it when a player

pulls some demonic plan from the depths of their mind and brings it all together before I even realize what's happening. I love improvising from clever plans by my players!

I think min/maxing...

Can work, as long as you still make a character out of it.
