About Griffin
Hi, my name is Griffin, and I have been playing D&D 5e as a player and DM for over a decade. Storytelling, gaming socially, and fantasy are a few of my great loves—running ttrpg games has been a perfect outlet for all three. I have a Creative Writing degree and I've participated in the Storyteller Collective's RPG Writer's Workshop where they run online courses and webinars to promote TTRPG adventure writing. I run inclusive games with in depth worlds which operate on their own logic. Stories at my table are character motivated, with challenges ensuring a sense of accomplishment by overcoming. I enjoy working with my players to weave their characters into the fabric of the game world so that everyone feels like each character in the group belongs to the world. My inspirations from which I primarily draw from for running RPGs are primarily Matt Colville, MCDM, the Lord of the Rings, Norse Mythology, Legend of Zelda, the Witcher novels, the Black Company, Dune, The Tapestry series by Henry Neff, Berserk, Warhammer, Shadow of the Demon Lord, and Critical Role.

My favorite books are
This is a really hard question but if I had to narrow it down, I'd say I'm a big fan of Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfus, The Chronicles of the Black Company by Glen Cook, and Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinnaman.
My favorite shows/movies are
The Lord of the Rings movies hold a very special spot in my heart and it certainly doesn't hurt that they are a cinematic masterpiece. Fullmetal Alchemist, Bee and Puppycat, Shera and the Princesses of Power, Arcane, and any and all of the Adventure Time shows will have my eyes glued to the screen.
When I'm not running games I'm...
When I'm not running games, I'm hanging out with my incredible partner, going on nerdy adventures with my friends, or I'm relaxing with a good game, book, show, or movie.
How Griffin runs games
When you join my game, you can expect tactical combat, intrigue, NPCs to role play with, and a world where something is always happening, and a logic to what is going on. My games are character motivated and a bit sandbox-y. By that, I mean I put options in front of the players but it is ultimately up to the group to decide the direction they go. For more long term campaigns, I work closely with each player to weave their character into the fabric of the world, ensuring everyone's characters start with motivations, a reason to adventure, and an understanding of how they got to where the game begins. To me, a backstory informs the character, not the campaign's story (but I do relish the opportunities to connect the game's adventure more closely with the backstory of any of the player's characters).
Griffin's ideal table
I love myself a committed table who are all creatives in their own right. Players who get into the nitty gritty about who their characters are and then bring them to life at the table are welcome at my table, as are the players who yes-and the others around the table, those who love to serve the music, and players who keep an eye open for how they can make a scene stronger, when to jump in and when to hold back. I'm here for that whole group story telling of it! That said, it wouldn't be the game I love if there weren't monsters and bad guys to have epic fights against. I revel in a well designed, dramatic encounter. Not every fight needs to be against gods and for the fate of the world, but, by golly, if I can swing it, no fight will pass without a little "will it, won't it?"
