About Patrick Batey
Greetings, adventurers! I’m Patrick Batey, a seasoned Dungeon Master with over 20 years of RPG experience, crafting unforgettable stories and guiding players through worlds of mystery, magic, adventure, intrigue, peril, and wonder. At the heart of every campaign I run is a commitment to collaborative storytelling—your choices matter, your characters shape the world, and every session is an evolving narrative where the unexpected is always around the corner. Whether you prefer heroics, intrigue, or chaos, my goal is to create an immersive experience where every player feels deeply invested in the journey. I utilize Theater of the Mind, Roll20, and Discord, which also serves as our hub for roleplay, coordination, and out-of-game discussions. To bring my worlds to life, I also integrate original art, custom maps, and handcrafted lore that make each campaign feel unique and immersive. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or a newcomer to the game, I tailor my sessions to create a welcoming, engaging, and unforgettable experience. Expect challenging encounters, meaningful character arcs, and a world that reacts dynamically to your actions. So gather your party, warm up your dice, and prepare for an adventure where your story takes center stage—because in my games, the only limit is your imagination.

I got started GMing...
in 1984 right after I got the classic red box D&D basic set. I branched out to being a storyteller in live action Vampire: The Masquerade LARPs in the 90's (at one point, I was running the largest LARP in my state). Life intervened for awhile, but I've returned to telling my stories.
My favorite shows/movies are
These are listed in the order that they come into my head. Shows: The Untamed (chinese drama on Netflix. Seriously. Watch it now). Farscape. Dexter. Silo. Severance. The Mandalorian. Movies: Blade Runner. The Great Escape. Where Eagles Dare. Star Trek 2 and 6. Star Wars original trilogy.
How Patrick Batey runs games
My priority is crafting an immersive and dynamic storytelling experience where every session feels like stepping into a living, breathing original world. I balance deep roleplay, strategic encounters, and compelling narratives, ensuring that characters evolve and stories unfold based on player choices. I love weaving in humor, tension, and high-stakes drama, keeping the momentum strong with moments of both introspection and adrenaline-pumping action. I do my best to bring each campaign alive through voice work, original maps, hand-crafted lore, and original artwork. I believe that every game is a collaborative effort, where player decisions have real consequences and shape the unfolding story. I thrive on dynamic combat encounters that reward creativity, tactical thinking, and character-driven choices—sometimes it’s not just about dealing damage but solving problems using the environment. I use a flexible mix of Theater of the Mind, Roll20, and Discord adapting to my players' preferences. Session 0 is a must, ensuring everyone’s expectations align while setting boundaries for a comfortable, exciting experience. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned adventurer, I work hard to create a game where every session is filled with mystery, discovery, intrigue, and unforgettable moments.

My games focus on...
storytelling and choices. I create my worlds to be as lifelike as possible. Want to go down a random street? Do it. Throw the story a curveball and it will respond. What the player does matters.
Rules are...
guidelines. I started with D&D and AD&D back in the 80's...back in the days of pouring over multiple books to find that ONE RULE that would explain what you are doing. I started with counting XP points (wow only 4393 until I go up a level). NO. MORE. None of this improves the story or the experience
Patrick Batey's ideal table
My ideal player is one who doesn't like to be limited in their choices. Question everything. The entire world is open to you. Go anywhere. See anything. So it looks like there is just one way into the tower? Find another. Find 3. Work together and do things I never expect.

I love it when a player
does not do what I expect. My favorite moments are when choices appear limited and they find others I never considered, uses of knowledge I hadn't expected, or make connections between wildly different pieces of information.
My table is not the place for...
rules lawyers and murderhobos. (players that want to murderhobo in my games quickly find out how coordinated the forces of good can be when motivated)
