About Christopher

I’ve been doing improv and comedy for around a decade, and really try to bring those skills to the table. Funny voice? Check. A story full of twists and turns? Double check. Bad puns? Triple check! While I've only been playing TTRPGs for just over a year, I have been a volunteer ad professional GM for a local Toronto meet up group and board game cafe — and have clocked in more than 500 hours at the table as a GM and player.

I became a GM because

I love creating stories collaboratively at the table.

I got started GMing...

after binge watching Dimension 20 and, after getting tired of just watching people play, hubristically just started DMing without any prior experience playing... I'm much better I promise.

When I'm not running games I'm...

writing, playing video games, and playing with my dog, Omar!

How Christopher runs games

I like to prioritize the collaborative storytelling aspects of the game and really reward creative play when it comes up. The rules are important, but not as important as having fun (which we can do by following the rules). While roleplaying is a core part of my games, tactical combat may come up where it makes sense — but players can always talk their way out of it. I also home brew everything, and try to incorporate the player characters into the story.

I once ran a session...

where the party convinced the BBEG to join their side after the result of a persuasion check with disadvantage was two Nat 20s.

My games focus on...

collaborative storytelling. I try my best not to have players be passive participants in a story being told at them, but give them agency in how the overall story gets shaped.

Rules are...

important for the game, but not the be-all-end-all. I'm not someone who throws out all the rules, but instead I try to let the rules help me dictate how to have fun during a game.

Christopher's ideal table

Because I have a "never say no" mentality, my tables can get rather chaotic and off the rails without them feeling aimless. I love players who surprise me with bold choices I would've never thought to make, or poke a hole in my story I didn't see. Ultimately, I try to maximize fun whenever possible, because that's what we're all there for!

I love it when a player

does something unexpected, whether that's a dramatic heroic ending or the perfect pun to punctuate a slain foe.

I think min/maxing...

has it's place! In some systems, it's hard to not have an optimized character without it feeling like you can't do much. But, just because you're optimized, doesn't mean you can't have an interesting character!

My perfect party mix is

roleplayers who support each other's decisions, don't sweat the small stuff, and are down for an epic adventure.
