About Niels Elmer
Howdy I'm Niels, I'm a 33-year old man and I'm a Dungeon Master who's been playing on and off for a while now, but really dove into DMing over the last four years. My heart belongs to 3.5e, but these days, I often find myself running 5e and pathfinder campaigns.

My favorite books are
always changing! No honestly I'm currently really enjoying reading through the many Arthurian stories, currently on the Prose Tristan, and before that I was in love with Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dream of the Red Chamber.
My favorite system of all Time is
Dungeons and Dragons 3.5e! That's right although more sensible people point out the many faults of that edition I can't help but love it and its diversity.
How Niels Elmer runs games
I love to challenge players with interesting combat, puzzles and other challenges that test my players in creative ways. I thrive on creating immersive experiences, where clever thinking and teamwork are as important as dice rolls. I prefer fun, adventurous tales where the players are the big heroes saving the day over more grimdark stories, there seems to be enough of that in the world already. Since I still love 3.5e I tend to shower my players in weird extra feats and magic weapons all the time and often use material from the many splatbooks.

I once ran a session...
in an actual castle dungeon, technically the oubliette, however there was no dragon or treasure hoard or I didn't roll high enough on my perception.
My favorite trope is...
either the evil wizard or evil advisor, which is why I often add an evil wizard advisor.
My games focus on...
A group of heroic heroes battling impossible odds and saving the day. Or the cat.

I love it when a player
comes up with a piece of backstory for their character and tells me because it can use it as a motivator for that PC.
I think metagaming...
is only a problem if it diminishes other players fun by stealing their moments.
I think min/maxing...
is valid.
