About Moose

GMing for over 10 years, I love exploring the wild and beautiful landscape of TTRPGS from across the spectrum of crunchy tactical games to rules-lite narratives. Players are the center of my games' worlds, and drive the action. A lifelong artist, DIYer, and spreadsheet nerd, I feel like there's always more juice to squeeze. I love borrowing tools from other systems and creators to get the most out of your hobby time and fulfill the fantasies bring to the table, and work together with players to create the stories they want to hear. Outside of TTRPG's, I'm kind of a freak about music. I like motorsports, old Westerns, historical fiction, mythology,

How Moose runs games

The players are the center of my games, I simply react the way the world would. Like a pool table, I rack'em, and you make the opening break. My style revolves around minimizing "analysis paralysis" and keeping the tension up and the pace tight. Action is punchy and nonstop, and hesitation is lethal, but the quiet before the storm is critical in selling the emotional beats that really make a story sing. Combat is always an option, never an eventuality in my games. I love finding ways to reward players with creative roleplay or exploration even if its not strictly "by the book" for how a spell/item/etc "should" be used. "Yes, and" and "No, but" are the lifeblood of my toolkit. That being said I have a bit of a power gamer in me, and will match energies if that's what excites the players. After years of sandbox games, I rarely plan linear plots anymore. I have a sordid web of tempters, conspirators, and dastardly villains that the players pinball around, before unraveling the whole thing in a grand reveal.

Moose's ideal table

I like to improvise and allow for lots of player creativity. I spent many years GMing for almost exclusively artists. No problem has a single solution and I aim to be very consistent about how things work, and what's appropriate for the setting/tone/characters. Player characters are always competent. They're masters of the arcane arts and professional warriors and thieves. A critical fail, isn't because you've fumbled a maneuver your character has practiced thousands of times, it's because the environment and circumstances lead to something impossible out of sheer luck. Or, your foes are ... that deadly.
