About Serena

I’m a cardigan-wearing, tattooed cozy-gal who enjoys a lo-fi lifestyle. To me, that means wearing elf ears when I go on walks at the park, occasional jazz club visits, and an extreme love of The Last Unicorn, Sailor Moon, Trigun (both the 90s versions), and collecting merkabah-star-shaped gems. I’m a huge advocate of mental health, being AuDHD with a smattering of other neurospice myself; and I strive to create not only ‘safe’ spaces for others, but truly ‘cozy’ spaces where you can finally let out that deep breath and be truly you (and whoever you're playing!). As a GM, I focus on the word 'game'—meaning our time together should be a fun and rewarding for all! Player comfort and enjoyment are my goals for every session. I enjoy crafting worlds with a lot of depth and creativity to them with NPCs that add to the story but never steal the spotlight. I reward roleplaying and weird problem solving, and as always: the rule of cool is champion over crunchy numbers!

I started running games because...

I had just entered TRPG playing and found a system I wanted to play (The Hidden Isle), but alas! No GMs were running it. And so, I became the GM to a 20-session campaign with Scooby-Doo x The Mummy vibes!

My favorite books are

My most beloved book of all time is The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle. The slow, winding exploration of the world and the unicorn's journey just forever resonated with me. And besides, we're all a little bit Schmendrick sometimes~

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

33M "chill x cozy x reasonable" 46F "creative x prepared x flexible"

How Serena runs games

With a passion for history, mythology, folklore, legends, and weird facts, I can guarantee rich and immersive worlds that will stick with you long after every session. But remember: my story is there to support YOU and your team~ How you navigate it and what happens will always be dynamin in reaction to whatever you do in game. And while I won't hand hold, if you are genuinely stuck on what to do or where to go, I will never leave you hanging. So go wild with your imagination and creativity—I know I will~

I prep by

I like to pre-session prep by coming up with one or two scenarios that relate to a player's personal story while also balancing world story building as well. To do that, I'll often ask players to, in secret, tell me their PC's backstory (lite version or novella), goal, and fears.

My games focus on...

Journeys more than adventure; think those long sprawling stories that stick to your ribs long after the credits roll. I want to give my players memories that last longer than loot lust~

Rules are...

Rules are there to support the players' imagination and wishes while also letting the GM give structure to the world and characters. Rule of cool will always win though~

Serena's ideal table

My tables are extremely welcoming to players of any skill level. Whether you're a veteran who wants to experience a journey with friends or you have no idea what an AC is and can't tell a d20 from a percentile die, it's okay. I'm here to make sure you have the best time possible. I'm chill, cozy, and flexible to those with odd hours, parents, students, neuro-spicy folk (like myself), or just those who want a weird, creative, warmhearted story to enjoy.

I am for a vibe that's...

You may read 'cozy' and think "oh, boring...". Think again! Cozy to me means that the story leaves a warm feeling when all is said and done. It doesn't necessarily mean farming or vibing to town fairs (though we might). Expect a table vibe that respects each player with kindness and patience~

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

80s-00s movies, memes, video games, Peter S Beagle (The Last Unicorn), Diana Wynne Jones (Howl's Moving Castle), Ghibli, spoopy-ness, weirdness, unusual stories and settings. A past campaign took place in a jungle hex-crawl where the mission was to catalog not kill (with secrets along the way).

I love it when a player

Be weird~ Be creative~ Be you~ That's really it! I love when people get into their characters, and I will help you do that with my world and story building!
