About Oscar (Midnight Phoenix)

Hi everyone, I'm Oscar or Midnight Phoenix as my online alias. I was introduced to the world of TTRPG, specifically Dungeons and Dragons 5E about 6 years ago and have loved GMing and playing ever since. I have been the GM for a number of beautiful and uniquely different long-term campaigns. Not to mention the one-shots and fun dips. One of my biggest passion and interest is the fantasy genre and all related media. Being with my players to take on incredible endeavors like slaying monsters, villains or saving the world in so many ways while forging bonds with memorable characters, they are great privileges that I continue to enjoy. Everyday I am learning and improving as a GM. With feedback and consistent communication with my players, I am always adapting and improving for the best possible fantasy experience to deliver and take part in. I firmly believe in communication as a key to everything getting done better, so I am always open to listen to my players or just having a chat about how things are.

To introduce other people into the TTRPG genre, someone had to be the GM to get started and so I self-learnt and hopped right into the role, needless to say I have loved it ever since. To be the narrator of epic fantasy adventures and witness so many incredible moments of story is truly amazing.

How Oscar (Midnight Phoenix) runs games

As a GM, I focus on a balance between combat, social and exploration while adapting to the style and preference of my players to make sure everyone gets the complete TTRPG fantasy experience. I am an absolute sucker for good roleplay and encourage all my players to give a go at it. While I go by RAW to run games efficiently, I am a devoted advocate for the "Rule of Cool" so definitely get creative and have fun. Memorable, epic moments are what we live for, not just published texts that dictate boundaries. I also welcome players of all levels and background to my table, beginner or expert. I would say in particular that I am very approachable to new players as I have helped so many over the years get into TTRPG and fall in love. Most importantly, I am good at personalizing your experience, to make what YOU want and imagine, come into reality to the best of my ability.

I love a table of different, diverse people with all kind of backgrounds and player character archetype. Players who focus on their player characters and how the character grows and interacts with the fantasy world. General vibe at my table is always laughter, jokes and epic moments driven together by myself along with the players. So if you are someone who focuses on character development, having a laugh and crafting epic, heroic moments, you are definitely a good fit. All background and genders welcome, my table is always accommodating for absolutely everyone who loves their fantasy tale.

I love it when a player

Seeks me out to discuss privately about an amazing idea they want to do with their character, be it a particular power or something they want to pursue with their character. I absolutely love when a player has great ideas for their character and what they wish to happen.

I think metagaming...

Metagaming is only appropriate sometimes. For example, if I am running a published DND5E campaign module, metagaming to get knowledge ahead of the rest of the party and the entire campaign spoils everyone's fun. I also like to mix up my NPC/Monster stat blocks, so presuming stats is not ideal.
