About me

I'm an experienced GM based in the UK. I've been playing TTRPGs since 1995 when I got snowed in at a friends house and was given the choice of playing Cyberpunk 2020 or watching them play Cyberpunk 2020 and i've been hooked ever since. I've been running games since 1996, including writing adventures for LARP systems, and have also blogged and podcasted about TTRPGs in the past. I run a weekly face to face gaming club with 25+ regular players and four separate games each session. I was also president of my university RPG Society. I love character driven games, and lean towards horror. I prefer to improvise with the players, riffing off each other and building something together.

GM Style

I enjoy running character driven games that mix interaction, combat and exploration. I love improvisation and rolling with whatever the players throw at me. As long as we keep a focus on the group dynamic and ensuring everyone's having fun, then we can explore most things. I set everyone's expectations around table etiquette and lines and veils at the start of session 0 to make sure we're all on the same page and that everyone is comfortable, and to give the players the opportunity to discuss what kind of game they want to play.

Nook is a wonderful GM - we had an excellent campaign of Changeling. He is responsive, thinks on his feet, fun and runs an inclusive table.

TLDR: He's the best. Nook is the best game master I have ever played with (and the person who got me into TTRPGS). I've known and played with Nook for years on and off and whilst I have played with a multitude of other GMs, none of them have the passion and enthusiasm that Nook brings to every session. He plans the sessions with each player in mind and is always able to handle curve balls. I could drone on more about the maps, the minis, conflict resolution between players, navigating PVP, new and experienced players, children and adults, honestly the list goes on.

I've played a lot of games with Nook, in fact it was him that got me into RPGs in general and I've stuck with the hobby for years now. He always comes extremely prepared for a session but absolutely won't railroad his players and does fun things like give out xp rewards for writing session summaries to help keep the group up to date on what's happening.

He was my first ever gm and has since ran many unique games across many systems and always makes the time to get everyone up to speed comfortably without letting it ruin any pacing. Genuinely 10/10 gm always puts fun first.

Nook has been an amazing help in getting me started with ttRPGs. He strikes a great balance between knowing the depths of the rules whilst also allowing for fun and has a great knowledge of more obscure titles to introduce into a group.

Nook is a great DM who balances games really well allowing players to have individual creativity within the game world without losing sight of the rules/lore. He’s welcoming and respectful to all players, encourages lively role playing and creativity, and is great at NPC characterisations that make the world feel lively and interesting.
