About Matt G

My name is Matt, I'm a 31 year old from Indiana. I discovered tabletop gaming as many nerdy 16 year olds do, at my local game/card store. Back then it was 4th edition D&D and it had not yet been popularized through shows like Stranger Things or actual plays like Critical Role. So anyway my friends and I sell all of our Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh cards in order to buy the starter set, desperate for something more immersive than video games. When I say I was hooked from day one I mean it. This was like no other game I had ever experienced. I don't feel the need to go into too much detail of what I loved so much about it other than the feeling of finding exactly what you've been looking for. It had everything. Imagination, immersivenes(not sure that's a word), social interaction and of course magic! Fast forward to college, I decide to try my hand at running games instead of always being a player (like in highschool because my buddy Austin was a self proclaimed forever DM).I shortly started a group with work friends that lasted several years even surviving into COVID thanks to the advantages of online play. Unfortunately even that group fell apart eventually due to adulthood responsibilities. Fast forward one more time and after taking a couple years break I rediscover the hobby in New Zealand of all places. These days I run a small family game but have room and appetite for much more.

How Matt G runs games

I’m a player-focused storyteller who builds immersive worlds full of emotional stakes and narrative mystery. I balance structure and improvisation to keep the game grounded, but my real goal is to give every character their own arc in a world that reacts to their choices.

Featured Prompts

My games focus on...

collaborative storytelling, character-driven drama, and immersive worldbuilding — where every choice shapes the story, and every player has a chance to shine.

When it comes to voices

I am no Mercer but I do try when it's an important NPC or if it adds something like humor or drama.

Matt G 's ideal table

Narrative-forward, emotionally-driven, character-focused D&D. A safe, cinematic, and collaborative space for storytelling. Combat supports the story, not the other way around. Roleplay is king. Looking for thoughtful players who love meaningful choices and shared spotlight.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

A dramatic Netflix fantasy series Tales written in character journals Quiet intensity, cinematic beats, deep character ties …with a splash of weirdness and magic when the moment calls for it.

I think min/maxing...

Is fine as long as roleplay is being considered throughout character creation.

My table is not the place for...

A player looking for a gritty rules heavy combat focused dungeon crawl.
