About Luxen
Greetings! I’m a 29-year-old guy, born and raised in the United States. A significant portion of my adult life so far has been defined by my struggles with my body. I’ve been diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, which means the bones in my back and hips are fusing together. Its onset radically changed what I was able to do, but I’ve continued to focus on what I love most: creating stories. I’ve been a GM for the past seven or eight years. I started out as a player in a few D&D 3.5 games, but wanting a campaign that would last, I stepped up and became the DM. My first campaign was in D&D 5e, and I’ve stuck mostly to that system for my campaigns. While I got my start in the Forgotten Realms, I’ve since switched to my own homebrew settings. I did so for several reasons: my misgivings with WotC, my preference for shaping lore around PCs, and my interest in playing in genres that don’t fit a traditional high fantasy setting. That said, I’m also exploring other systems that better align with the kinds of stories I like to tell.

How Luxen runs games
As a GM, I love a lot of roleplay, and I’m usually at my best when the players are going all in during a scene. When it comes to combat, I tend to enjoy running large battles with many enemies or big bosses with unique mechanics. That said, I usually include combat less often than most GMs.

I prep by
Sitting down with some good music and writing out a few ideas I have for the future, and if need be I prep battle maps.
Rules are...
Important to keeping everything fair, but shouldn't dominate everything that people would like to do.
When it comes to voices
I think they can be fun, and helpful getting into the headspace of a character, but they aren't required!
Luxen's ideal table
A table of players with complex characters, and who are not afraid to get into role-play with everyone at the table. The more you interact with me, the more curious you are, the more you will get out of me.

I love it when a player
Really gets into the lore, and starts coming up with their own hypotheses.
I think metagaming...
It happens, but you shouldn't let it control your expectations of what is happening, because I often change things.
I think min/maxing...
Is fine, but I think the more deeply flawed a character is the better they are to play.
