About Lumen

Hello! I'm Lumi, an 18yo GM who's looking to start running some games on a more professional platform ^^ I began GMing first just running some games on the DnD discord, it went pretty well although my inexperience definitely showed when it came to finding players! It turns out allowing completely random people means you end up with lots of scheduling conflicts :( but since then I've learned tremendously from my mistakes and I'm hoping I've improved significantly as a GM! Now, I've been trying to refine my design philosophies behind combat, as well as craft more intricate RPs as I'm becoming more aware of what DnD games are capable of becoming, and handling! I ran a DnD club at school for a while as well, trying to introduce everyone to the wonderful world of tabletop games, but my enthusiasm wasn't as shared by my peers, hence why I'm now moving onto the online stage to run my show! What you can expect from me is an active, bubbly GM who's trying their best to make every single session be fun and engaging! I make a pretty significant amount of maps and homebrew content (although perhaps not all of it is very high quality don't judge qwq this game is hard).

People are always surprised when I tell them

I'm very extroverted, and not afraid to get dirty! I will wade into bogs and muddy areas, beaches, water, clean up vomit and touch bugs! I love to engage in conversation about any topic I have a vague inkling about, and am a good listener in general ^^

How Lumen runs games

I love a lot of things! One of the major things I really enjoy is when the roleplay or story is intertwined with the combat in a way that makes it interesting. Let's talk about one thing at a time: In regards to combat, I love to add neutral or two-sided things that allow players to plan strategically around each encounter, and reward attaining information beforehand! For example, enemies that go frenzied and attack ally and foe when certain conditions are met, allowing parties to use part of the field against their enemies if they think and use the correct approach. At the same time, I try not to make things too punishing if they don't, and make every fight fair from the get-go! The design philosophy is to reward thinking and strategy, rather than punishing the lack thereof. For roleplay! I'm an avid roleplayer, in fact I've been roleplaying since I was 10, way before I got into DnD and running tabletop games. For me it's just an essential part of life and imagination, it's a form of group storytelling that's much more engaging than books (although I did read voraciously as well!) I enjoy a 50/50 split between roleplay and combat, and when roleplay does play a part in combat and character's actions, words and background can affect how a battle goes, hostility, morale, etc. Overall I'd say I'm a fairly creative DM when it comes to how I run my games to offer a more immersive experience!

I deal with rules issues by...

Communication, which is absolutely key to any healthy table relationship! As a newer and inexperienced DM, I'm happy to listen to any argument that is presented in a respectful manner and backed by some manner of evidence that I can verify. I'm very open to suggestions

My games focus on...

Roleplay primarily with the combat being a function of the story, although typically it'll be a 50/50 split!

Lumen's ideal table

I love a table that plays for vibes, and I think each table (or room, in my case!) should have their own unique flair and flavour, and I try my best to accessorise and customise each group to fit the specific flavour that comes with each group of unique, special individuals. As long as there isn't any form of uncomfortable exchange between people and everyone's on the same page, then it's an ideal table! Relaxed but also passionate about things.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Constantly complain or compare the current campaign to past ones! I understand everyone wants to share their experiences, but to constantly negatively link other experiences to the current campaign can create a toxic and negative atmosphere :(

I think min/maxing...

is not ideal for DnD games - in a game of make-believe, we should be looking to play holistic, compelling characters and not trying to abuse the nook and cranny of the system that we try to adhere to in order for a more cohesive ruleset!
