About MaGnUs
I've been playing and GMing RPGs for almost 30 years. In addition, I'm a comics writer and journalist, hosting and producing a pop culture podcast since 2003. I'm an avid reader, fan of science fiction and superheroes, and love worldbuilding.

How MaGnUs runs games
I like to emphasize roleplaying, worldbuilding, and the development of relationships between player characters so they can become more than just stats on a sheet. We're here to tell a story together, and to have fun. My preferred kind of game is high adventure, with a nice helping of action and combat, but leaning more towards cinematic than tactical. I prefer to leave miniatures to wargames. This means that I favor theater of the mind combat, but I'm not opposed to using a map every now and then to make things clearer. With limited exceptions, the campaigns I GM focus on heroic characters. I don't usually do horror, and I don't include extreme graphic violence or descriptions in my games. Once more, we're here to have fun, so my first priority is that my players feel comfortable and entertained. After that, I value the rule of cool. The actual hard rules of the system we're playing are important, but they're just a guideline for our fun.

I prep by
trying to make sure I have notes for all the things that might happen during the game, so I can be ready for what the players come up with.
My games focus on...
keeping all players engaged, making sure their characters are a part of the adventure instead of feeling like they're replaceable.
When it comes to voices
I don't overdo it, but I try to use them, or rather inflections or speech patterns, to better immerse the players in the story.
MaGnUs's ideal table
I like a table where everybody engages in roleplaying, not just reacting to the situations the GM throws at them. I enjoy when player characters interact heavily with each other, developing their personalities and relationships.
Featured Prompts
I love it when a player
comes up with an unexpected solution to a problem I throw at them.
I think metagaming...
should be kept to a bare, involuntary minimum. We're supposed to be roleplaying, so we should act only upon the knowledge our characters have.
My table is not the place for...
causing deliberate chaos. I don't like "agents of chaos" who like to mess up things just for laughs, without taking into account whether or not everybody else is having fun.
