About MaGnUs
I specialize in cinematic, character-driven games, with nearly 30 years of experience as a player and GM. My other occupations include comic book writing, journalism, and hosting a pop culture podcast for over 20 years — these skills help me build memorable adventures, interesting NPCs, and immersive worlds. I love science fiction, superheroes, and rich worldbuilding, and I focus on collaborative storytelling where player choices shape the story. My tables welcome both new and experienced players, with an emphasis on fun, pacing, and meaningful character moments.

How MaGnUs runs games
I emphasize roleplaying, worldbuilding, and the development of relationships between player characters. The aim is for characters to become more than just stats on a sheet, focusing on collaborative storytelling where character choices and personal arcs matter. My campaings are high-adventure, with pleanty of cinematic action over complicated tactical scenarios. While I favor theater-of-the mind for fast-paced combate, I ocasionally use maps to help clarify complex scenes. I run games focused on heroes, avoiding I avoid horror and extreme graphic content. My aim is to create a comfortable and welcoming table. My top priority players feeling entertained and engaged. Rule of cool is king, while rule systems are tools to to support fun and memorable moments.

I prep by
trying to make sure I have notes for all the things that might happen during the game, so I can be ready for what the players come up with.
My games focus on...
keeping all players engaged, making sure their characters are a part of the adventure instead of feeling like they're replaceable.
When it comes to voices
I don't overdo it, but I try to use them, or rather inflections or speech patterns, to better immerse the players in the story.
MaGnUs's ideal table
I enjoy tables where everyone participates in roleplay, not just reacting to what the GM presents. I especially encourage players to interact with each other — developing their characters, relationships, and shared story moments together. You don’t need to be an experienced roleplayer — just willing to engage and collaborate.

I love it when a player
comes up with an unexpected solution to a problem I throw at them.
I think metagaming...
should be kept to a bare, involuntary minimum. We're supposed to be roleplaying, so we should act only upon the knowledge our characters have.
My table is not the place for...
causing deliberate chaos. I don't like "agents of chaos" who like to mess up things just for laughs, without taking into account whether or not everybody else is having fun.
