About Lavan
I'm Lavan, I'm 32 years old and I love to tell stories! My favorite moments during a game are the ones that are cathartic and thrilling for everyone! I love all things Final Fantasy, Paramore and horror, and have been playing D&D for roughly 4 years! I've been a DM for a little over 2 years now, and have been coordinating three full-length campaigns for about a year and a half (still going)! I'm involved in the furry and LGBTQ+ communities! I'm the author and creator of an ongoing furry visual novel called Wayfinder: A Modern Tale of Furry as well as a short, finished one called After Passion. I have a cat named Grizzly and a rabbit named Smokey!

My favorite shows/movies are
For TV shows, I love Once Upon a Time and Charmed, I tend to watch one of those over again every couple years. For movies, I love most horror and am always down to watch the Scream movies!
People are always surprised when I tell them
I work on a furry visual novel called Wayfinder: A Modern Tale of Furry! A lot of my humor and narrative style are reflected in that VN.

How Lavan runs games
I run all of my games in my homebrew setting, Stålseiðr! It's a land that's faced two world-altering events before: the first of which altered the peoples of the world; the second altered the world itself. My games contain themes including LGBTQ+ characters/relationships. They include furry/anthro characters and mindful/mindless undead characters among living people, and avoid spiders specifically. I avoid explicit NSFW or violent descriptions outside of instances of horror themes. For one shots, I tend to give players a glimpse of specific settings in Stålseiðr, and even set them during different time periods! For mini or full campaigns, the players might start on one of its six main continents and end up exploring that whole thing, or even travel to them all! For full-length campaigns, I tend to try to work with players to manifest a kind of story that's enjoyable for everyone at the table! Additional resource, upgrade and customization systems are added to the base 5e mechanics to give players more control over their own moments and even their character! Between sessions, I sometimes offer text-roleplay threads and even write stories from the point of view of NPCs that offer insight and perspective into the world and its events. I hope you'll try out any of my games, and be safe~

I deal with rules issues by...
I tend to check to see if the group has agreed to any of my rule changes or if we've all agreed on one beforehand, then I read the rule as written, including any additional aspects that might be in another ruling. If necessary, we reverse game state; either way I reiterate the rule and carry on.
My games focus on...
I tend to focus on the character and emotional side of things. There are a lot of moments where a player learns something that changes the entire context of what they know, and my favorite moments are the ones where all or most players at the table feel catharsis.
Rules are...
It's important to establish rules before games start, so I make it a point to read out the rules of my games before each one-shot and at the start of/whenever coming back from a long break for campaigns. I allow players to set boundaries and make it a rule to avoid crossing them. Let's all have fun!
Lavan's ideal table
My biggest intention is to make the game fun for as many players as I can, with my goal being all of them. Players who tend to be self-serving or confrontational might not have a great time with my games. I do my best in campaigns to incorporate each character's backstory into the flow of the campaign's story, and tend to find ways to make characters' goals align that way. Players might find an abundance of NPCs they may interact with, but my favorite moments are the ones where players' characters can enjoy the company of one another. I enjoy offering each player the chance to have something unique and customize their character's abilities in various ways, this ranges from an alternative custom lineage for one-shots to enhancing damage on spells and attacks or adding resistances and even spell charges to items in campaigns. I forbid 'playground talk' and tend to immediately pull the conversation away from it; this includes talk like, "well, I have THIS skill" with intent to downplay the chosen skills of another player's character (as opposed to offering the use of that skill to help).

I am for a vibe that's...
I love when players can talk about and theorize about what's going to happen next at the end of a session. I'm all for offering a teaser and I love working with players to set up fun moments between themselves.
If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Homebrew settings; some homebrew/variant mechanics (voted on at start of campaign); Final Fantasy (and other JRPGs); video game music; character romance (between players or player/NPC); character backstory incorporated into main plot, anthropomorphic characters, unconventional battle mechanics.
I love it when a player
I love when players lean into the connections they build with their party and communicate in-character about what's affecting their character in that moment. I love when players work together to create unique and interesting dynamics between their characters.
