About Kristina

Hi! I am Kristina. When I discovered actual play on youtube it became clear to me what TTRGs were all about. I was immediately hooked and now here I am! I cannot offer an encyclopedic knowledge of 50 years of lore but I CAN offer atmosphere and immersion and a few good laughs (or groans) along the way.

I got started GMing...

mainly to see if I could. I started with a one-shot which quickly turned into a campaign of progressive one-shots and I pretty much just let the momentum keep moving me forward.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

DND 5e Call of Cthulhu Kult: Divinity Lost

When I'm not running games I'm...

probably prepping for the next game. Or the next game after that.

How Kristina runs games

My GM style is equal parts serious and immersion focused balanced with moments of light-hearted banter. I personally love a game where, no matter how heavy the theme is, we can also enjoy a few laughs. I like to run linear(ish) plot-driven campaigns from published official and third-party modules that I will then embellish and/or modify to suit the driving narrative if necessary. Games will generally have an even balance of combat, roleplay and exploration. Leaning a bit heavier on exploration and combat - although the actual balance will depend on the specific campaign. I do also love to throw in a decent puzzle here and there to add some extra spice. "Rule of Cool" will always win out over "Rules as Written". Slavish adherence to the rules over epic storytelling moments kill the mood not only for the players but also for the GM. Pedants be gone!

I prep by

compulsively overprepping. - reading the material - making an outline of the general progression - filling in the basic encounters/interactions needed - fleshing out NPCs and Monsters - Planning out combat scenarios if applicable - in-depth fleshing out of encounters/interactions - several drafts

Rules are...

imperative. If you don't know the rules then you won't know how to break them. If I don't know the rules then chaos ensues.

When it comes to voices

I'm not a voice actor but I do my best :) To be honest with you, my NPC voices and accents can range from "pretty decent" to "wildly inaccurate" to "Please stop laughing. this NPC is desperately trying to impart some very important information."

Kristina's ideal table

I love a "yes, and" table when one character makes a choice (good OR bad) in game and the rest of the party runs with it. I love flawed characters and those who struggle with moral dilemma. I love players with a sense of humor that know we are playing a silly game but also know how to suspend their disbelief and immerse themselves in the moment. I love players to who enjoy the collaborative side of the game and know it's not about "winning" or being "right". I love players who know when to step back and give someone else their moment in the spotlight. As well as those who know when it is their moment to shine and will rise to the occasion.

I love it when a player

immerses themselves in the story allowing their character to make choices that even the player themselves may be surprised by. I love it when a player thinks laterally and finds creative solutions to difficult situations that don't rely on the GM having to constantly bend the rules.

I think metagaming...

is hard to avoid but is akin to revealing spoilers. What the player knows about the world and what the character knows about the world can be wildly different. Metagaming breaks that fourth wall.

My table is not the place for...

Aggressive rules lawyers, chaos trolls or disruptive pedants. (by "chaos trolls" I mean those players that do random disruptive things in - and outside - of game in order to mess with their party. This doesn't mean you can't play a chaotic character it just means do not be a troll to other players)
