About me

I'm a long-time gamer and educator. My full-time job is as a math teacher for adult learners seeking to earn their high school equivalency, and I also do some education research on the side. I've been a Dungeon Master for a number of groups playing 5th Edition D&D since January 2021. Overall, I DM because I like to put pieces on the table and see what the players do for them - for better or worse! GM Style

I like to run games that combine modern and old-school styles to bring the best of both worlds. This means deadly dungeon crawls combined with complex social dynamics and villains running the spectrum of shades of gray. I use published adventures and modules from all editions of D&D and from both WotC/TSR and 3rd parties, and supplement with my own stuff plus whatever you bring to the table as players.

It is difficult to select just three attributes for J, as they truly embody and employ all of the possible options. While campaigns with other GMs were fun, J truly set the standard for how the game ought to run. In times of uncertainty about game rules or functionality, J is able to quickly assist and keep the game rolling. In times of absolute chaos due to player shenanigans, J adapts and allows for those moments to flow freely. They are my top choice for GM and will continue to be for quite some time.

J creates a fun, inclusive environment to explore your character and the story. I’ve really enjoyed the westmarch style campaign/world they’ve created and look forward to uncovering more of what’s happening!

Early review for me, but so far, J has provided an outstanding gaming experience and showed me a new personal standard for player-friendliness. For starters, J provides a solid foundation of worldbuilding to ensure your character can find a way to fit in. Beyond that, he was super-open to going back and forth on character creation to ensure there were plot hooks available for everyone to latch on to and get the adventure going. In session, J keeps things moving, never overindulging in description or railroaded situations. You will regularly be asked even things like how you character wants to spend downtime (if you want to roleplay that as well). I appreciate J's use of timeskips for pacing as well. Combat has felt balanced so far, though you should show up to the table with a basic knowledge of the rules and your character at current level; he's there to support, but not tutorialize you. Those are the points that have stood out to me so far, and I'll definitely be continuing as a player in the months to come!

I can’t say enough great things about J as a Dungeon Master! I have been in two campaigns led by J (one that's currently underway), and they've both taken place online. I've noticed that J has taken the time to craft detailed, immersive worlds for us to explore, making our sessions feel rich with possibility and adventure. One thing that has set J apart in my view is their ability to balance a group with a wide range of D&D experience. Our party includes first-time (now second-time) players as well as veteran DMs, but J has made sure that each of us is engaged, challenged, and having a fantastic time. I am a newer player, and I think J teaches and guides me without ever making things feel overwhelming. A big part of this is the use of digital visual aids to keep us all on the same page. J has used maps that are slowly revealed as we make progress, while also using many/all of the features of D&D Beyond effectively. And the use of music is a big mood-setter that I greatly appreciate and enjoy while playing! If you're looking for a DM who is creative, patient, skilled, and passionate about the stories that a co-crafted during each session, J is an outstanding choice.

J was, and is, my first DM for DnD, and wow do they set high expectations! My group tends to be a bit more chaotic than most, but J has always been a supportive and constructive DM. They are conscientious and care about having a good time with their players. If you are interested in an interesting, dynamic, and well-structured adventure with a really cool person, then look no further than J. For context, my group prefers more RP than combat, and we tend to spend more time exploring, conversing, and having fun, but J balances each adventure well in terms of combat. J is also extremely organized and communicative and strives to cultivate an experience that is a balance between what all of the players enjoy in settings that J enjoys running adventures in. J is well-versed in the rules and strives to balance our goals and ideas as players with the game mechanics, which culminates in one of my favorite things to do with my friends from grad school.

If you’re looking for a DM who merely runs a game, look elsewhere. J crafts campaigns with the precision of a master artisan who has made a blood pact with an eldritch god of storytelling. Every session feels like stepping into an intricate web of fate, where every offhand comment, minor NPC, and suspiciously-placed token will somehow—years later—become the most important thing in the world. But don’t be fooled—J isn’t just a narrative mastermind. They are also a chaos gremlin enabler of the highest order. Want to talk your way out of combat using "alternative interrogation techniques"? Absolutely. Bring a body back to life just to solve a problem? You're gonna waste that spell slot, but that'll be the most animated dead person alive (kinda...). Fair, clever, and diabolically patient, J doesn’t just run a game—they orchestrate a long con of narrative brilliance, making you feel like a genius when you finally piece things together (only to realize they planned this years ago). If you have the chance to play in their campaign, do not hesitate. Your character’s backstory will be woven into the world so seamlessly that you’ll start questioning whether they secretly wrote it for you. Final rating: 20/10, would absolutely let them ruin my life with plot twists again. Do your worst, J.
