About Blaine || DM of The Venture Village
Hello! My name is Blaine, and I've been an avid enjoyer of tabletop gaming, specifically Dungeons & Dragons 5e, for about six years. I started as a GM for a campaign with my best friends where we all learned to play together, and I have continued to share my love for D&D with other players ever since. I love teaching new players and showing them how exciting a collaborative roleplaying game can be. Regardless of their experience, I make sure my players feel included, and I strive to provide an entertaining experience that they will always remember. I run a Discord server for my players called "JustBlaine's Venture Village". The Venture Village acts as a welcoming hub for adventurers that are seeking a quest for glory, riches, or whatever shenanigans I plan to throw at them. Every player that is interested in joining one of my games is invited to the The Venture Village, so I hope to see you there!

I became a GM because
I was the only one in my friend group that was familiar with D&D, and I had the time and patience to learn the rules. I'm glad I did because I was able to create a homebrew campaign specifically tailored to our interests. The memories made during that time are some of my fondest.
People are always surprised when I tell them
that I can't visualize things in my head. It is certainly a challenge for me, as a GM, to describe things on the spot, but I've learned to be prepared and be intentional with my descriptions. Plus, I like that my players and I can collaborate in order to fill in the details I might've missed.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
1. Witty 2. Hardworking 3. Considerate
How Blaine || DM of The Venture Village runs games
My players can expect a wide range of things depending on the game I'm running. I love a relaxed game with comedy, fantastical characters, and unique experiences just as much as a suspenseful game full of drama, mystery, and rich lore. Usually, my players can expect some combination of everything. I like to follow rules as written because I like the challenge of using the rules to craft something unforgettable, but creating a captivating story is always the goal so I'm willing to venture from the rules if needed. I always try to incorporate my players' backstories into the game, and I try to meet my players halfway when it comes to their ability to roleplay as I'm comfortable with a low or high level of roleplay. I'm flexible with combat as well, usually providing a range of simple and dynamic combat encounters. The safety of my players is the utmost priority. I use various safety tools to ensure everyone is comfortable and having fun.

My games focus on...
inclusivity and having a good time. At the end of the day, we are here to have fun, so I make sure my table is a safe space for my players to play as they wish. I work to reciprocate the level of investment my players put into their characters by incorporating their backstories into the game.
Rules are...
there to keep the game fair and be used as tools for creating an interesting story. Having proficient knowledge of the rules as written makes altering them or coming up with your own much easier.
When it comes to voices
I may not be a professional voice actor by any means, but I enjoy embodying my characters and giving them different voices. Sometimes when doing a voice, it can accidentally morph into an impression of one of my favorite characters in media, but my players usually find it funny when they notice.
Blaine || DM of The Venture Village's ideal table
My table is welcoming and fun. I have years of experience teaching new players as well as engaging experienced players with my games so every type of player is welcome. Players who want an inclusive and imaginative experience will fit right in at the Venture Village. Roleplay is encouraged, but there is always time for a funny joke here and there. I pride myself on the professional but fun atmosphere my games have. Players that prioritize playing a fun game while taking it seriously will shine at my table.

I love it when a player
surprises me with a creative idea, character choice, or piece of dialogue. I'm always inspired by my players and reward them for keeping the story interesting.
I think it's a red flag when players...
want to deviate from their fellow players. D&D is a collaborative storytelling game, so it's important to play as such. The "lone wolf" character doesn't really work well unless that character is willing to compromise with the rest of the party to achieve a common goal.
I think min/maxing...
can be fun if done with the story in mind. I encourage my players to build their characters based on what makes sense for their narrative and then min/max those choices. A fighter that always wins is cool for a while, but the moments when they fail make a more interesting story in my opinion.
