About Josh the DM

I've run different games between friends and family members. I've enjoyed exploring the possibilities of playing D&D along with other TTRPG's like Daggerheart, brainstorming on how to blend together the best of all systems. Recently, I've been on the learning curve for GM-ing and I've been excited to implement what I've learned from other GM's. I continue to learn new techniques as there are so many styles of play. I enjoy collaborating to create narratively driven worlds and tactical RPG combat.

My favorite shows/movies are

- MCU's Avengers & GOTG movies, Transformers One, X-Men Days of Future Past, Superman - Daredevil, SW the Clone Wars, Transformer's Prime, Arcane, Criminal Minds, The Pitt, Castlevania, Legends of Vox Machina, K-Pop Demon Hunters

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

- Imaginative - Illustrative - High Energy

When I'm not running games I'm...

- I'm thinking about my own fictional fantasy storytelling as I want to publish my own novel someday. - I'm exploring various different worlds from comics to video games and books.

How Josh the DM runs games

I enjoy tactical combat and I am more than willing to engage in fun roleplay as someone who appreciates voice acting & tries to implement my own voices. Something that makes my GMing unique is how I give my player's the ability to have more agency with the story process and make the monsters feel authentic when trying to battle the players in combat!

I prep by

- Going over character backstories, keeping the current adventure the focus but not forgetting where the Player Character's are in their journeys.

My favorite trope is...

- Found family. I know that's probably considered cheating considering how many people like that trope, however, there is truly something about finding connection and hope amongst people who consider you family for just being yourself.

Rules are...

- Structural & Flexible. They're needed sometimes in order to keep everything fair and helpful, but at the end of the day, having fun is the most important thing and that can take precedence over the rules.

Josh the DM's ideal table

My ideal table would be players of any kind willing to enjoy their time together. From puzzle solvers to people interested in engaging combat or role-play. The vibe of the table would be dependent on the story the table is going through altogether, whether a darker story or a more light-hearted journey.

I think it's a red flag when players...

- Use AI for their backstory. It may be accessible, but it pales in importance and meaning to a real person's genuine creativity

I think min/maxing...

- Has a place in TTRPG's. My main reason for saying as long as those stats can be explained via story and character arc, it can be really interesting to see that angle.
