About Steve "Jaspor" Orr

Hello! I started playing D&D back during the early red box days, took a very long break, and have rediscovered my love for TTRPGs in recent years. Mostly playing and DM'ing D&D 5E these days, which I got into back in 2015. I have an in-person group that meets regularly, and two different online campaigns going (one as a player and one as a DM). I'm very comfortable with online systems like Roll20 and Foundry VTT, as well as using Discord. I've run several of the official adventures, as well as written and run my own original adventures and campaigns. And speaking of writing, I have several items published on DMs Guild, including the popular "Puzzles, Predicaments, and Perplexities" series. I'm looking forward to running games and meeting players of a wide range of experience, and I'm just as comfortable DM'ing for veterans as brand new players.

I became a GM because

I like the challenge of quickly adapting to the unexpected decisions players often make. (That and we didn't have anybody else in our group who wanted to commit to the work involved.)

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

creative, adaptive, and funny.

How Steve "Jaspor" Orr runs games

I absolutely love the roleplay aspect of things, and enjoy social encounters just as much as (if not more so) combat encounters. My adventures always give the players an opportunity to talk their way out of combat, though sometimes it might not be easy. Voices? I'll try them for different NPCs, with varying degrees of success. For combat, I like to keep the action moving and encourage players to have an idea what they're going to do before their turn comes around. Puzzles are also my thing (as evident from my DMs Guild titles), though I don't go overboard with them and understand not everybody enjoys them. Overall, I'd say you can expect a well-paced session with a wide variety of encounters.

Rules are...

guidelines for how to manage the game. The rule of cool always prevails at my table.

When it comes to voices

I try and do different ones for NPCs, though my collection of accents is pretty limited.

I love it when a player

creates a complex backstory for their character and brings that to the game.
