About Jake Rammell

Hey all! My name is Jake Rammell, and I’ve been behind the Screen for over six years. I started with D&D 5e back in 2019, and since then I’ve run games in Pathfinder 2e, Starfinder 2e, and fiction-first systems like Daggerheart. I love the balance between tactical crunch and rich storytelling these games offer. My style is always narrative-first, with player agency shaping both the story and the worlds we create together. Combat is tactical and exciting in Pathfinder and Starfinder 2e, while cinematic and heroic in Daggerheart. In every system, combat always serves the greater story. I love weaving backstories into the plot, creating moments where your characters truly feel like the heroes. Romance can be part of the game if the table wants it, though anything intimate will always fade to black. I have experience creating custom battlemaps in both 2D (Dungeonfog) and 3D (Talespire), and run games through a curated Foundry VTT setup designed to be smooth and beginner-friendly. Most importantly, my table is a safe and welcoming space. Everyone deserves to shine and feel included. That means respecting player identities and their beliefs, so long as those beliefs aren’t used to harm others. My games are LGBTQ+ inclusive by default, with zero tolerance for harassment, bigotry, or disrespect. If you’re looking for a collaborative, story-driven adventure where your choices matter, you’ll feel right at home at my table.

I got started GMing...

because I love world-building and collaborative story telling. Telling a story is fun, but creating a memorable experience together is what it's all about. Its a great way to make new friendships and to maintain old ones.

When I'm not running games I'm...

in the great outdoors! Hiking and camping are a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Cooking is a passion of mine: it really should be the sixth love language.

How Jake Rammell runs games

I enjoy games where the story is always the centerpiece. Every tool (roleplay, combat, exploration, and complications) serves to advance the narrative. I want players to always feel they can answer questions like, “Why are we fighting?” or “Why are we here?” I love both roleplay and combat, and because combat is a core part of the systems I run, you can expect to be heroes when the dice hit the table. For long-form campaigns, I use prewritten adventures enhanced with professional artwork and battlemaps. For one-shots and short adventures, I design my own custom maps, encounters and story beats. The tone of each adventure can be different: some are gritty and punishing with real risk of loss, while others are high-stakes yet heroic, where PC death is always a player’s choice, not left solely to the dice. I especially enjoy weaving themes of horror (both cosmic and traditional) and mystery into my storytelling. As a player at my table, you can expect high stakes, tense mysteries, and thrilling combat: all in service of a collaborative story we make together.

I deal with rules issues by...

Trying to see it from a player perspective. Good faith interpretations of the rules is always met with open ears and an open mind. I'm not perfect, and I will happily reverse a poor ruling. Exploiting rules not as intended is best nipped in the bud. I always offer a change of action after a dispute.

Rules are...

meant to be constraints that facilitate creativity. Without a line, a kite cannot fly. Without rules, there is no rhythm or grounding for the game.

When it comes to voices

You can expect both enthusiasm and variety. You don't need to feel compelled to have a voice for your character, but I enjoy adding them to NPCs. It can be a great way to add a little depth to them. Just as important as voices is good descriptions and sound effects.

Jake Rammell's ideal table

My table is collaborative, story-driven, and inclusive, where both roleplay and combat serve the story we’re telling together. Expect mystery, horror themes, and high-stakes adventures with space for every player to shine. My table is always welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community. My table isn’t a place for PvP, toxic behavior, or derailing the narrative just for the heck of it. Bigotry and disrespect are never tolerated — we play as a team of heroes, not as enemies.

I am for a vibe that's...

Welcoming and safe so that we can explore darker themes of horror and evil. The villains are terrible in most games I run. And though they have redeeming qualities, their actions are never glorified. The actions of you the heroes define the story, not the actions of the foes.

I love it when a player

Takes an active role in shaping the story we tell. Your actions define the game. I also love when players are team players: thrive in the spotlight and setting up moments for your team members to shine.

I think min/maxing...

Can be a great way to play. Min/maxing is not mutually exclusive to compelling roleplay. Play a character the both you and the team will enjoy.
