About Jacob
Hey! I am an experienced player and DM with hundreds to thousands of TTRPG hours of experience, which is wild to think about in retrospect. I mostly play 5e, but I love to play around with other systems like kids on brooms/ bikes or roll for shoes. When I was in school, I was the DND club president and had a lot of experience helping out new players who didn't know the game or extremely experienced players who knew the rules better than me. I am very much a rule of cool dm, but that doesn't mean I'll make it easy. I think the best way to see if you'd vibe with a DM is to hear what nerdy stuff they like. I like Dimension 20 and Naddpod for dnd podcast, Adventure Time and Avatar: The Last Airbender for cartoon, a whole lotta anime like One Piece, and so many modern fantasy books. If you like any of that stuff, I think you'll like any of my games.

I became a GM because
I love improv and communal story telling. Also because I like causing problems and this is a more productive way to do that
My favorite books are
Lots of them! The Night circus by Erin Morgenstern, The chronicals of castellane by Cassandra Clare (hopefully book 3 comes soon), or Babel by R.F Kaung. I have many more, but these are recent(ish) standouts
When I'm not running games I'm...
Reading/ watching something, doing some Ju Jitsu, or hopefully playing in some games myself
How Jacob runs games
I love roleplay. I think good roleplay takes a game from good to great. In many ways, TTRPGs are gambling, but with your emotions, and you need roleplaying to care about the game. I like survival situations where the environment becomes a harsh obstacle. I don't track rations ot carrying capacity, I try to let the danger of the environment come from skill checks and saving throws. I love combat of course, but like it to be difficult. I am very open to creative player moves that bend the rules, but for those to be fun a serious combat needs to be challenging. I think my favorite way for that to come into play is by complicating the map and having it gradually change.

I once ran a session...
Where all my players jumped into a bottomless hole because they knew I wouldn't let everyone die. It ended with them plugging the hole with a moon.
My games focus on...
Roleplay and character interaction. I love combat, but I want it to have meaning and have many paths to victory.
Rules are...
a guideline not law. They exist to help the game function not to slow it down.
Jacob 's ideal table
I love roleplay based games. Combat is of course still a part of it, but i want roleplay to fuel combat not the other way around.

I love it when a player
gives a help action. If everyone committed to helping everyone else look cool and have fun then the whole crew would look awesome and have a great time.
I think metagaming...
happens and thats okay. As long as your not googling montser stats I think its fine. If your 8 int. character solves a riddle because you solved a riddle, I think that's a funny opportunity rather than an issue.
I think min/maxing...
Can be fun when its not expected of everyone. If one player wants to have a pala-rouge instakiller that can be so much fun as long roleplay based bard isn't looked down on and still enjoys their time in combat.
