About Tim G.

Hello! My name is Timothy and my pronouns are He/Him. I have a deep love for storytelling and dice rolling and have ran games on roll20 for a number of years. In total I have roughly twelve years of total GMing experience and have created my own worlds and games across many different genre's such as high fantasy and the old west. Below (I think) you will find a Youtube link to my channel where I have uploaded past games. These will give everyone a good understanding of the type of GM I am.

I became a GM because

Well, besides the fact that no one else in my gaming group wanted to do it, I like the control that it brings, but more than that, I also love being at the center of what makes other people feel strong emotions, whether it be happy, sad, anger, or regret. Immersive storytelling is incredible.

I got started GMing...

Back in 2014, when a couple of buddies from high school wanted to start a game night, we picked up Mutants & Masterminds for a superhero campaign, and the rest, as they say, is history.

My favorite books are

Oddly enough, I am not a big fan of fantasy novels. I read A Song of Ice and Fire series and The Lord of the Rings, but my true reading passions lie within the pages of mysteries, thrillers, and horror novels. I am a sucker for a great twist.

How Tim G. runs games

I typically hold an average of 70/30 roleplay to combat. I also enjoy puzzles (nothing to crazy) and I really love the rule of cool. I run a rather loose gaming experience and will on occasion ignore rules outright if the situation calls for it.

My favorite trope is...

Man, oh man, I love a good betrayal. (You have been warned.)

My games focus on...

Largely character-driven stories and deep and meaningful roleplay. Of course, there will be bad guys to take down and evil to vanquish, but it's the collaborative storytelling aspect that originally drew me to GM in the first place.

Rules are...

A framework with which a given system suggests to the GM and players how the system is meant to function. Which, hey, fantastic, but in my opinion, sometimes Rules as Written can be a tad limiting, so single moment adjustments or long-term homebrew are sometimes needed to simply alter that framework

Tim G.'s ideal table

My table is very relaxed and casual. If you enjoy friendly out-of-character banter and immersive storytelling and roleplaying, then you will absolutely have a blast at my table. On the flip side of that, if all you're looking for is a war game type vibe, you will be disappointed by my table because while combat is of course had at my tables, they will typically be narrative focused or driven. Rarely will you encounter random bad guys for no reason.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Immersive collaborative play and rich, meaningful roleplay, then you're going to love my table. It's what I am best at, it's what I enjoy the most about TTRPGs.

I love it when a player

Leads! Yes, when a player leads, it informs me what this player is about and, more importantly, what their character is about. Backstory is fine, on paper "here is my character", but it's what you do once you're sat at the table that truly matters about your character.

I think metagaming...

Is lame but difficult to avoid, which is why I employ a whisper voice chat for my games. I will pull the players who need to know the new information into that channel in order to avoid metagaming, but let's be real, metagaming is nearly impossible to avoid entirely and shouldn't be seen as taboo.
