About Hunter McEwen
Hi I'm Hunter McEwen, but obviously, you can just call me Hunter or by my streaming name Khel. I'm a long time creative in the form of writing, streaming (vtubing specifically), performing, and, of course, roleplaying in a multitude of ways, most importantly TTRPGs. I'm a passionate creative who loves worldbuilding and storytelling, especially when it comes to collaborative creation and its one of the reasons why I love TTRPGS so much, it allows me to tell a story alongside others, inspiring each other and creating something we couldn't alone. I've been playing TTRPGs since I was twelve years old up, starting with Pathfinder and then moving into DND 3.5 and 5e specifically. Then about six years ago I was lovingly put into the favored position of 'forever DM' for all the people I knew because of my love for writing, worldbuilding, and my desire to be either a script writer for games and tv, or creative performer in some way. Becoming a DM has been an expansive learning process that has not only made me a better writer, but also taught me other skills towards my goals and vice versa. As I've been streaming as a Vtuber and pretending to be a character as well as interacting with others, I've gotten better at doing voices and getting in character. Another thing that's happened since I've started DMing is trying other systems as I've expanded into playing new games like Blades in the Dark, Lancer, and Cain, but also supporting and testing new games like BREAK!!!.

I became a GM because
I love telling stories and building worlds, and it's position has allowed me to facilitate that, along with helping other players bring their creativity into the world. I absolutely love creating something woven from all of us involved within it.
How Hunter McEwen runs games
As a GM I try to make sure I'm a sort of Jack of All trades so I can try to provide as much of an immersive experience for the players, wanting to give a good mix of combat, roleplaying, and challenges that use their critical thinking and beyond while changing the amount depending on the player group to make sure the story is enjoyable and we're working together to craft something. When it comes to the thing I specialize in, however, there is one major thing that comes to my mind: I love to create campaigns and settings that fill lived in and pull you in. There is a couple ways I do this, I take bits of the player's characters' past, present, and event future at times and incorporate them in the story. I also improvise things in the moment, inventing new characters, or encourage them to add people, events, things, and more into the world. I think the story feels more real the more people put into it, the things they can joke about, reminisce on how cool they were, the fear they felt, or the sadness of an arc. I make sure to create iconic things in the setting that they can remember, or see so they can think of novel ways to interact with the world. Creating the hooks and letting them decide which ones grow to make it flow into the narrative and feel like one natural story told by all of us.
