About Andrew Neighbors

Hi, I’m Andrew! I specialize in crafting homebrew adventures from sprawling years-long campaigns to one-shots and 4 - 8 session short-form campaigns. I’ve been Dming for nearly a decade and still can’t get enough of it! My games have a heavy emphasis on narrative and roleplay. For my taste, it’s not enough to simply run you through a dungeon full of monsters. I want to give you the feeling of living inside a story. My campaigns are hand-crafted, complete with voiced NPCs, curated playlists of background music to set the scene, as well as enemies and magic items tailored-made for the adventure at hand. My tables are welcome to newcomers and veterans alike! As a GM, I especially love to run for players who get absorbed in character, engage with their fellow PC’s, and aren’t afraid to take risks! Let’s tell some stories together!

I became a GM because

I've been telling stories for as long as I can remember, and the only thing more fun than making them is getting to make them with others! The joy of crafting a world that allows people to get the feeling of living inside a story is UNPARALLELED!

I got started GMing...

When I was 14 years old, very quickly after getting the books (and before getting to know the rules all that well) I ran a game for a table of 8 teenage boys. It was a mess and it was a blast!

My favorite books are

Some recent favorites would be The Name of the Wind, Christopher Buehlman's The Black Tongue Thief, and The Daughter's War, as well as Terry Pratchett's Old Gods!

How Andrew Neighbors runs games

I love the performance of role-playing along with character voices and accents, but most of all, I love the craft of creating the story. And seeing what unexpected turns the PC's will take within it! I also love running combats and creating mechanics to uplift the story. Expect many homebrew magic items, unique monster abilities, and dynamic set pieces to keep battles interesting and give you new engage with your character's abilities!

I deal with rules issues by...

Coming to a quick consensus at the table if the rule is obscure or hard to look up. So long as the Players are in agreement, I often find its better to maintain the pace of the game rather then look up an edge case.

Rules are...

First and foremost, a tool for storytelling! Though you might be surprised to learn I tend to prefer games with crunchy mechanics as opposed to rules-light narrative games. I love how mechanics can allow a player to immerse themselves in character rather than keep a bird's-eye view as a storyteller.
