About Greg

"Camaraderie. Adventure. Steel-on-Steel. The stuff of legends, right Boo!?"-Minsc, Baldur's Gate Well hello there. My name's Greg. My journey into dorkdom began not with dice but with dial-up: I discovered Dungeons & Dragons through dedicated fan sites to Dragonlance, Ravenloft, and the Forgotten Realms, where artists like Jeff Easley and Clyde Caldwell enchanted my Pokemon-addled brain in the late '90's; not long after, a day playing Baldur's gate with a friend and diving into Salvatore's Cleric Quintet gave me an appreciation of lore and story in this game world of monsters and mayhem. I didn't roll my first dice until 3.5 was a fresh new thing, and no other hobby has even approached absorbing my interests as TTRPG does. Storytelling and fun are my primary concerns when I take the proverbial DM screen for a drive: I believe in fostering group connectivity, player investment in their own story and the stories of others, and a living, breathing world you want to get lost in. Whether it's the sprawling City of Doors, the misty Domains of Dread, or a world of my (and your) own making, atmosphere and action go hand-in-hand in how I approach each session. I love teaching new players, and I love experienced hands looking for a challenge. I believe in fostering a safe environment for every player to explore their character and themselves comfortably around others. With experience on my side and enjoyment a guarantee, what are you waiting for?

How Greg runs games

While I have never consciously done so, I balance the pillars between combat/roleplay/exploration through organic development of the game and game sessions, but in my heart of hearts, I'm here to help a story unfurl and enable roleplaying. Exploration, social, and combat are all merely different methods for characters to engage and grow with the world around them, and I believe in organic development of the world. Characters the primary method of exploring that world. I believe dynamic scenes depend on dynamic GMing, and my style attempts to meet all players where they are. I enthusiastically give NPCs different voices and personalities, I make each monster and action stand out through description, and I believe in cinematic storytelling, with dynamic villains, diverse peoples, and deep, ancient history with magic and mystery spun throughout. Combat is the bread and butter of most TTRPG and people's comfort should be leaned into. New to the game? You should feel free to explore new options and keep to what works for you. Veterans looking for dynamic, challenging combat? You sound like my high school group, and believe me: I'm up for the challenge. I love teaching new players and I love giving returning players an outlet to be themselves: gatekeeping helps no one, and helping people learn helps the hobby grow. We're all in this together, and we roll as one.
