About GoodWeather

My name is GoodWeather and I have been running games over half my life! From my first table of D&D as a kid to dozens of games and groups over the years, I've found my way as a GM. I typically run more heroic, rule of cool style games, but I'm never opposed to a crunchier system and it's requirements. Genre wise I explore it all. If the players want high stakes drama, haunting grimdark, or a lighthearted adventure, we can create that story together. If you or your group are interested in a game I haven't run before, I would be excited to learn a new system! My driving belief behind running games is for everyone at the table to have fun and to feel impactful on the story we're telling. My goal GMing is to create a world that sticks with you outside of the game. I like to craft my campaigns to weave in the players' backstories and make sure to ask them for any specifics they might want to encounter during our time (Making sure the player characters have topical and impactful moments that weigh on the overarching narrative ; asking the group what they'd want to see, someone might want to slay a lich or find buried treasure etc, tropes or encounters I can ensure will be included at some point) Be it a long form campaign, a few sessions or a one shot, I write everything to and for the group, never repeating plots or characters between different tables. I also NEVER USE GENERATIVE AI in any of my writing or any of the pictures I may use for the sessions. From heroic fantasy to meat grinders, campaigns to one-shots, I love running games, let's play!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing! Always writing and brainstorming. My goal is to tell stories across many mediums and platforms. Collaborative storytelling with ttrpgs, comics with artists, novels and screenplays. I want to tell stories that range from fun adventure to impactful messaging that stays with you.

How GoodWeather runs games

My strongest styles would include heroic fantasy, rule of cool "you are the hero of this story" type adventures, but I have also ran many meat grinders and more toned down low fantasy games. Genre wise I love fantasy but constantly explore others, my two current longest running campaigns are a pirate adventure (just over a year) and a western cowboy war turned very grimdark eldritch horror campaign (over four years long). The tying thread I would say is that almost all my games I have ever run are all written by me, and very tailored to each of my players story preferences & character backstories. I try to really personalize my games for them, that also includes what they look for in the game as far as actual play. My games are typically role play forward, but I always include at least one combat scenario per session, and some sessions can certainly be more or less oriented to either combat or role play depending on place in story/session. If I find the group favors one half of play more than the other, i adjust for that, if I know one player out of the group prefers one half more than the other I talk to them one on one to ensure they still feel satisfied with the game. Overall, I like to tell unique stories and have fun.

Rules are...

To give structure, not to restrict! Without rules we're just playing pretend rather than playing a game with stakes, but rules are most fun when broken. I adhere to the Rule of Cool most of the time if it enhances the fun of the table, but it definitely depends on system and if game is better for it

GoodWeather's ideal table

My tables are friendly and here for a good time, I don't adhere to any one table culture apart from working together and no one being a jerk. Over the years I've learned to adapt to the different player styles and can ensure that whatever the composition of the table is, everyone gets their preferences shown and explored. As long as you can play well with others, you have a seat at my table.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

NADDPOD or Dimension 20. My games are tailored to the player characters and my worlds are reactive to them. If y'all want more goofy, it gets more goofy. If y'all want to get heavy, it gets h e a v y.

I love it when a player

Thinks about the game outside the session. Coming up with theories of whats in store, giving me lists of items or boons they'd like to get in the future. Fleshing out their character and wondering about their life in world. For the game to have an impact on the player is the sign of success to me.
