About Lacara

Welcome! I'm DM Lacara, from the DM Roundtable on YouTube and the Enclave Discord server. I've played TTRPGs for 15 years, and have been DMing a full homebrew world 5e campaign for almost 2 years. These days, I prefer running Enclave missions: ask me about the system! I love light-hearted, cozy settings with lots of fun side quest potential, allowing my players to explore and bond without a sense of impending doom. Epic stories don't have to be stressful stories, and character development doesn't have to imply trauma; join my table and leave refreshed!

I got started GMing...

After my homebrew world (Taveia) took up residence in my brain, complete with its unique geography, magic, history, ancient heroes, and cultures. It begged to be populated, so I started running campaigns in it!

My favorite books are

The Lord of the Rings, The Diary of a Provincial Lady, Thief of Time, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Howl's Moving Castle

My favorite system of all Time is

Enclave! If you haven't heard of it, sign up for a mission or send me a message -- it's for anyone who wishes there were fewer statistics and more role playing in RPGs.

How Lacara runs games

I value creating rich worlds, and facilitating the spontaneous moments of goofiness and excitement that only collective storytelling can create. I try to make the most compelling and lifelike spaces possible, so my players can move in and make themselves at home. I enjoy cozy, low-stakes stories with lots of room for friendships to grow between PCs (and NPCs), as well as epic campaigns with the fate of the world at stake. What TO expect: - Humor, always, and quite possibly bad guys with very silly names - A world you'd like to spend a lot of time/live in - Memorable recurring NPCs What NOT to expect: - A game you can't talk about in front of your mom/kids/younger siblings - Horror (spooky settings may occur sometimes, but no gore or really dark themes) - Adult situations (keep it PG-13 or else, zero tolerance policy)

I once ran a session...

where my party wandered into a town that thought it was being beset by werewolves. It turned out to be two angsty teen druids who were looking for a lost cheese grater, but they were embarrassed that the town would find out they broke up, so they were doing it in dog-based wild shapes.

I prep by

Not prepping. Really! I come up with an interesting situation or challenge and that’s it. Almost all NPCs, critters, and even some settings are made up on the spot. If you sign up for a published one-shot, that’s run as written (mostly), but I think the real fun is found coloring outside the lines.

When it comes to voices

I have no shame. I love a good accent or unusual intonation, and since I run without a webcam, I put the extra effort into differentiating NPCs through voice work. I know everyone's different though, so I don't demand the same commitment from others -- talk however your character would!

Lacara's ideal table

My table doesn’t care if this is your first experience with role playing games or if you’ve been doing it for decades. Everyone should be looking for a few hours to have some laughs and make some ridiculous decisions in a wacky, lighthearted environment. The emphasis is on telling a good story and having fun in a collaborative setting, not arguing over rules or “winning.”

I think metagaming...

Is either due to a GM failing to make the world immersive, or due to players who don’t really value role playing. Planning can be done in-character; metagaming is trying to “win” the session. If you try to metagame, I will absolutely throw unexpected things at you until you give up and start acting.

My table is not the place for...

Rules lawyers, people who take themselves too seriously, or anyone who approaches role playing as a game to be won.
