About GM Dusklight

Since I started playing TTRPGs and 5e I've grown a huge passion for the hobby and now eat, sleep, DnD, repeat! With a background in facilitation and education technology, I was naturally drawn to GMing and although I love to play, I adore DMing. Onboarding new players and giving them the support to learn not only the rules but the space and time to develop their playstyle and RP is particularly rewarding for me.

When I wanted to provide others with the type of game and experience I'd like as a player, where the players drive the story, pass around the spotlight and have good relaxed fun in a safe space.

How GM Dusklight runs games

As a GM I run my games in a fun, light hearted manner to ensure players feel comfortable and are able to have a great time role playing and roll some dice. With my background in education and facilitation I do my best to help the group gel well together and ensure that each player has their time in the spotlight. For new players I will show you how to: - Build a character - Give advice on how to roleplay comfortably - Use Roll20 and DnD Beyond I will also provide player advice videos and articles on my discord to help players understand the game more or advice on running their chosen classes. I love combat and often use 3rd party content to give players a new, interesting challenge when needed I create an immersive experience through using music and sound effects, bespoke maps and tokens, dynamic lighting and plenty of lore to be found in the game world.

I deal with rules issues by...

If a disputed rule comes up and the table can't decide how its interpreted (or the internet can't provide a quick answer), I'll flag it for later and give my own ruling in good faith. Then I'll research the books, errata etc and provide the official ruling on the discord channel to follow in future!

I prep by

- Focusing on the PCs first - background stories, hooks and situations for pc's to shine. - Situations - Prep dramatic situations that enable to players to drive the story and make important choices. - Maps / Dungeons / Imagery - I'll prep cool maps, dynamically lit dungeons and images for RP!

My games focus on...

The players first and foremost. Pacing those up beats, down beats, chill out beats and climatic beats. Humour. Allowing the players to drive the story.

GM Dusklight's ideal table

I like to think my table is relaxed, supportive and has open communication. Players who enjoy a good mix of rp and combat in a chill environment will like the vibe at my table. I like to think new players are supported, while those who like to Mid/max are challenged. I appreciate more experienced players helping and supporting new players, while working together to create a safe and welcoming place for everybody.

I am for a vibe that's...

relaxed, ready to rp and supportive of everyone at the table.

I love it when a player

has goals for their character and drives the narrative forward using their own initiative. Also when a player supports other PC's character development.

I think it's a red flag when players...

- Try to tell others how to play their character - Don't share spotlight - Don't respect boundaries that keep the table a safe place
