About Tonte
Hello Adventurers! My name is Tonte and I've been GM'ing for about 8 years now across multiple systems: from 5e, to Call of Cthulhu, to Avatar Legends, and soon the Cosmere RPG. I have an undergrad degree in creative writing, but to be frank, the experience I've gained from that pales in comparison to what I've learned through the collaborative storytelling medium of TTRPGs. As a GM I lean more story-forward than combat centric, and enjoy working with players to create satisfying narrative arcs that weave in their backstories whilst still moving an engaging overarching plot forward. I favor theatre of the mind for most combat scenarios, excluding major encounters/bossfights that need a little bit more climactic *oomph*. If that sounds like a good time to you, I hope you'll sign up for one of my games!

I became a GM because
I love storytelling and the magic that happens when stories are told collaboratively instead of solo.
I got started GMing...
a homebrewed Avatar the Last Airbender campaign using the "Last of the Lacers" book for 5e. It was a time heist style campaign that ran for over 2 years!
When I'm not running games I'm...
playing videogames, reading, or writing! I'm big on Brandon Sanderson and RF. Kuang, and one of my new favorite games is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33!
How Tonte runs games
The more I play RPGs the more I prefer systems that are story-forward and allow for players to bask in epic moments and shape the narrative being told. I prefer running quick, impactful combats with minimal mapping, where players get to spend more time describing the cool things they want to do as opposed to counting squares and figuring out how to align a 15ft cone without hitting allies! I also love incorporating character backstories into the main story in a way that surprises players and keeps them engaged.

I love it when a player
takes the story somewhere I wasn't expecting, it helps keep me on my toes and leads to many of my campaigns most iconic moments!
I think it's a red flag when players...
try and use charm or other actions that limit other players autonomy! Not cool! I learned how unfun that can be the hard way as a novice GM.
