About GM Sean

Hi players! My name is Sean, and I've been a professional GM working in a face-to-face tabletop setting for over a year. It's a hobby I love and have been involved with since AD&D 2nd Edition. (My favourite class was Bard.) I've worked within the industry as a freelance writer, mostly with White Wolf, and have been DMing D&D 5e regularly since 2018. One thing I'm very excited to bring here is to be an Australian Time Zone DM — If you're a fellow Aussie looking for more games, I'm hoping I can give you some more options! (I know, it's rough out here finding games for Australians!) As a professional DM, my belief is that what you're after in a game is what's most important: If you have a setting or an idea for a campaign you'd love a DM to explore, please reach out and let me know. If I can think of a fun way to do it, I'd love to run it for you.

My favorite system of all Time is

... Castle Falkenstein. It's also the system I need to homebrew the most in both setting and system to make even playable. And yet, the imagination in it is wonderful. It's the perfect example of how it's better for an RPG system to have high points than it is to be consistently good throughout.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

vibrant, enthusiastic, and accomodating

When I'm not running games I'm...

... a librarian! I'd like to think this means I bring a certain level of organisation and good systematic thinking to my GMing. It'd be untrue, but I'd like to think that!

How GM Sean runs games

It depends upon the game and the players — I think every game is its own thing and the important thing is to not tie yourself to a style but vary it based on what everyone at the group wants. That said, I think my strength as a DM is in creating characters. I do act a lot with silly voices, I try to make characters memorable, and I want players to love and hate my NPCs.

GM Sean's ideal table

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

... energetic, a little bit goofy, and respectful of everyone else at the table.

I love it when a player

... absolutely throws me for a loop. There's nothing better than a player who comes up with an unexpectedly brilliant way to overcome an obstacle I've laid before them, or a stunning choice that derails the plot in a satisfying, character-appropriate way. This isn't the DM's story: It's the table's.

I think min/maxing...

... is a perfectly valid way to play the game. Some people enjoy the feeling of mastering a system, and that's a form of fun! What becomes a problem isn't min-maxing, but not taking the table into account when you do. Be honest, fit the table-feel, and let the DM know you're looking for a challenge.
