About GM Blake
I'm Blake, a proud husband, cat dad, game master, and general nerd. I have been running TTRPGs online and in person for over 9 years now, starting with D&D 5e, before branching out to several other systems. I love storytelling and the power of a shared narrative- I find it builds great memories, a positive hobby-space, and long-lasting friendships. When it comes to running games, I typically use Tale Spire, a 3D VTT that allows for some pretty cool environments to be explored in 3 dimensions, or just as set pieces for some theater of the mind. I use this in conjunction with Discord and Roll20, for audio/text/video and character sheets, respectively. I'm here for fun games, good times, camaraderie, and adventure! My favorite genres, generally speaking, are Horror (Gothic & Folk!), Comedy (Absurdism, Parody, Satire, etc.), and Romance (we love a Romcom in this household). I love to run everything from a roaring 20's fantasy mobster romps, to nightmare-fueled vampire survival, to magic-school romantasy, and everything in-between!

I started running games because...
I love telling stories! I'm a certified yapper in my daily life and my every waking moment is filled with ideas, bits, jokes, and plot-lines. Furthermore, I love shared experiences. Who doesn't want to make lifelong memories of adventuring in a fantasy world?
My favorite shows/movies are
TV: Interview with the Vampire- 10/10, perfect, no notes. Community A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Young Justice Freaks and Geeks Movies: About Time Mad Max: Fury Road When Harry Met Sally The Birdcage Whiplash Midsommar Way more than can be listed here!
When I'm not running games I'm...
Cooking food, gardening, annoying my cat (Basil), reading, and occasional video gaming!
How GM Blake runs games
When I run games, my primary focus is always fun. There's nothing more important than having a good time with the little time we have on this floating rock, so I strive to make every session a memorable experience. Beyond fun, I also aim to maintain verisimilitude throughout my games. Immersion is a very important part of role-playing games to me. It helps keep a steady tone and a consistent vibe. I find myself in the center of the Venn diagram of comedy and horror. I find that seriousness without brevity is suffocating, and happy times without spooky times just don't feel as satisfying.

My favorite trope is...
Impossible to decide! In no particular order- Extended disarming, Friends to Lovers, Hero becomes the Villain, Coming of age (generally), Found Family, Chekhov's Gun, Bittersweet endings (mostly in cyberpunk/dystopian worlds), Holiday episodes, Grumpy Sunshine.
Rules are...
Suggestions. General guidelines. Caution tape around a crime scene that you bypass to get to the 'good stuff'. Rules are certainly important for getting an idea of a system and guidance in weird situations, but otherwise can be ignored or changed as we see fit.
When it comes to voices
I do my best! I am never afraid to ham it up to 11, despite only being decently-competent at a handful of accents (not believable ones, mind you!). I try to focus on mannerisms, word choice, tone, and cadence rather than always putting on an accent.
GM Blake's ideal table
My table is a safe place to nerd out. That includes neurodivergent folks, as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community. If you have problems with people of different backgrounds or lifestyles, this is not the table for you. My ideal players are those who not only love the plot/setting/adventure, but love each other's characters! A table that plays off of one another, shares the spotlight, and sees the party as its own character are my favorites.
