I got started GMing...
during lockdown in 2019. I stumbled across a few D&D Actual Play groups and fell in love with the game. So, I bought a PHB and wrangled my friends into playing with me. I've been a forever GM ever since!

How GingerTheMage runs games
I tend to run custom-world sandbox games that focus on characters first. Roleplay is something I work to help facilitate in all of my games. Combat is more or less present depending on the tone of the game, but when it is present I work hard to make sure it is challenging and engaging for players. I use safety tools like red, yellow, and green cards as well as lines and veils. I don't tolerate gatekeeping in gaming. Play is for all people of all ages, and my goal in games is to do what I can to support everyone regardless of differences.

My games focus on...
Fun and immersion through character-first storytelling. Antagonists might come from player backstory. Challenges like like puzzles and combat will focus on blending characters goals/motivations with the given setting.
Rules are...
a negotiation. I like rule of cool, as long as it keeps things fun for the table. I may be more or less strict on rules-as-written depending on the tone of the game setting and player experience. I try to teach new players rules without discouraging creativity.

Gets lost in their character. Those moments where a player falls into world and works to find solutions/navigate challenges with their fellow party member are exhilarating.
I think it's a red flag when players...
My players will not engage in things like racism, sexism, homophobia/transphobia, ableism, etc. Slurs are not tolerated and cruelty is unwelcome. If that's a problem, show yourself out. This is a safe space for you, unless you make it unsafe. Be kind and you will always have a place at my table.
