I have lived primarily in the forgotten realms for nearly 30 years now. I have led family, friends, coworkers, and convention goers alike through countless encounters and expeditions over the years. GM style

D&D is a social game first. Promoting comradery and enjoying cooperative story telling through adventure is paramount. All three pillars should be used. Social Interaction (RP) is the heart, Exploration done well should excite (people places and things), and Combat should add suspense (without a guarantee of survival) The game should be set in a living world with conflicts, motivated entities, and a chance for success or failure. The battle is between good / evil or law / chaos not between the party members. Creativity should be rewarded and role playing doubly so. Homebrew rules should be simple and few.
