About Wes

I have been playing D&D for close to 3 years now, and a year of that was as GM running my own home-brewed campaign. I enjoy challenging my players with puzzles and encounters causing the need for them to think critically and strategize. While I understand the need for a balanced party, I also enjoy seeing players use characters they actually want to play, even if that means the whole party consists of a single class. To me, it adds to the challenge of the game and brings out more opportunities for the players fo get creative.

I became a GM because

I love helping guide players through a story and learning about their characters and putting them into challenging situations that make them think outside of the box and come up with creative solutions to puzzles and situations they are presented with.

I got started GMing...

When my main group was ready to start a new campaign. There was a world I had created several years prior with the intent of writing a story, but never got around to it. I took advantage of the need for a new campaign and created my own plot in a world of my own.

How Wes runs games

I love challenging my players with puzzles, combat, and story, and making the game feel more realistic, meaning there may be consequences for player actions farther down the line. I like to give my players the freedom to choose many things about their characters and experience, including unconventional character builds, being chaotic in the game setting, etc.

Featured Prompts

My games focus on...

Having fun and creating a fun story that players enjoy. I enjoy some nonsense and joking around during the game, and want to have an open space for that while playing the game.

Rules are...

Important, but flexible. While I do follow both game rules and my own rules as a GM, I am open for discussion in the case where a player disagrees with my interpretation of the rules.

When it comes to voices

I know I am not the greatest with them, but I encourage my players to try their best to personalize their characters further with their own voices.

Wes's ideal table

I like players who are serious about creating fun stories that involve strategy and critical thinking on occasion, and who have a sense of humor and are willing to have fun and joke around on occasion while playing the game. Creating interesting characters and remaining in character as much as possible is important to me as a GM, and I find that it makes the games and stories far more entertaining and immersive.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

Has a personal connection with the character they created as well as the plot of the campaign and are actively engaged with both.

I think min/maxing...

Can be fine and dandy in games with more experienced players in more difficult game settings, but at a table with newer and less experienced players, it should be avoided in order to maintain fairness among the players.

My perfect party mix is

Personally, I find that a game is more fun with an unconventional team. I want my players to create characters that they will vibe with, which does not always result in a well-rounded team. "Unbalanced" teams create more complex situations that require players to think outside the box for solutions.
