About Maya

My dad brought me up playing D&D, and being the only kid in my school who played all throughout high school I was "the GM". I ran weekly games at a local game store where anyone could hop in and we would have some fun! During college I took a small break from running games, but for the past year I've been back at it! TTRPG's are about a collaborative experience - a story that's never been written that is dependent and open to the players and DM. in turn, there needs to be mutual respect and care given to one another throughout play, whether that be interpersonal or about rules!

My favorite books are

Dracula, lots of Stephen King, the Witcher series, and Lord of the Rings!

My favorite shows/movies are

Lord of the Rings (duh), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Sinners, Nosferatu, Nope, Game of Thrones (I know, but I still enjoy it), Alien(s), and a lot more.

When I'm not running games I'm...

playing video games, doing some sort of craft, practicing viola or piano, and editing audio for short films or other audio things!

How Maya runs games

I love roleplaying and putting on a good voice, and an environmental challenge for combat so I firmly place myself in "a bit of both" category.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Spielberg or Jackson! Hoping to get to Peele's level one day...

I prep by

Reading, a lot, and doing improv exercises!

Rules are...

flexible but firm. I love when rules are contested or we work out a way for something to work, but then that must stand for everyone else, including the enemies.

Maya's ideal table

I enjoy banter, throwing bits and jokes around, letting the players run free in this world, and having players initiate roleplay without me nudging them. When it comes to combat, I am not a DM to write down or memorize everything your character has going on - I believe that is your job and if you forget something and we've moved on to someone else's turn...well you'll remember next time for sure! Everything is on a case by case basis, of course, like if we're doing a one shot things won't be nearly as strict, but it we're in session 30 of a long standing campaign, then yes, you will have to abide by the rules. The DM abides.

I love it when a player

gets descriptive! Tell me how you beat up that guy! I want to know what kind of clothes you're character is wearing! Help me understand this world too!

I think metagaming...

is not very cool. I like to be in the world, and metagaming breaks the illusion for me.

I think min/maxing...

can be fun, but only if everyone else is min/maxing or everyone in the party is cool with it.
