About Fabio

My name is Fabio, I'm originally from Germany and I now live in beautiful Sweden. I fell in love with D&D around 10 years ago when my brother introduced me to Critical Role. I started playing in 2022 and have been DMing since 2023. I have mostly been leading online one-shots and a long-term real-life campaign in my homebrew world. My goal is to make sure that everyone at the table feels seen and has a fun time together. It is especially important to me that everyone feels like they are in a safe space where they can be themselves and explore their characters. Trusting each other (for example, by being honest about what you rolled on your dice) is vital for a positive shared experience.

I became a GM because

I love storytelling, I love improv and I really enjoy hosting and providing a fun and enjoyable experience! I have hosted many themed irl D&D Dinner parties (Dungeons & Dinners) with matching snacks and decorations.

When I'm not running games I'm...

thinking about and planning the games I am running. I get very passionate, and spend a lot of time on projects on my free time. D&D is my greatest hobby, and I enjoy delving into the depths of the worlds we play in. I get the best ideas while walking my little dog 🐕

How Fabio runs games

I approve of players doing cool stuff, even if it is outside of the rules. Think "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist." and Rule of Cool. I enjoy roleplaying and playing around with different voices and personalities. I am by no means a pro, I just have fun with it and immerse myself into characters. I focus on what players would like to see in the game. If a player has an in-depth backstory , I will do my best to make things they created matter. If looting and battle is more important to someone, I make sure to give them a lot of possibilities to show their skills in combat and have cool moments. And so on.

I deal with rules issues by...

ruling in favor of the players, and making a note to check up on the rule AFTER the session. I don't want to bog up a game with searching through reddit posts and sage advice.

Rules are...

great guidelines for games, but they can get in the way of fun. If someone has an idea that is cool and intersting, chances are I will support it. I try to stick to the rules myself, but it's not unheard of that I will change a creature or ability to make it more interesting or different.

When it comes to voices

I love to get immersed into character by giving NPCs different voices and mannerisms. Just having fun with it gives me so much joy and I always appreciate when others join!

Fabio's ideal table

Focused on the game and aiming for immersion with your character, while also enjoying funny moments that happen, joking around occasionally and keeping everyone involved.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

Immersed into the game, but enjoys jokes and funny moments.

I love it when a player

takes notes about characters, lore and places. Also when a player uses their abilities in a creative and novel ways, even if it breaks the rules somewhat.

I think metagaming...

can be part of teamwork. Gently reminding each other of abilities and rulings is allowed, as long as nobody is trying to "play" someone else's character. Abusing game mechanics that your character couldn't reasonably know (e.g. a Troll's regeneration) is allowed, but should be used mindfully.
