About Tommy

I have survived 53 years on the sphere we call Earth. I drive coaches as a regular job and enjoy playing games of differing styles- mainly video games, and of course, with other humanoid rolling 3d shapes with numbers on, speaking of which, although I am relatively new to the dm-ing of D&D, I have been aware of the glorious entity since the 1980s. I am currently coming to the final story arc of my home game- been going for a couple of years now, but it is now I tell you that I have also run a couple of campaigns within the world of darkness-Vampire: The Masquerade 2e revised previous to starting dnd 5e. I am now showing my 2 sons the ropes of dm-ing, as they want to have a go.

I got started GMing...

about 25 years ago, I found Vampire: The Masquerade 2nd Edition Revised, I then started storytelling by jumoing at the deep end and learning how to DM as I learned the rules and settings of the game. Life got in the way- as it usually does, and started a home game of DnD as a family game night.

My favorite books are

anything Discworldian and have the all but the final novel. These sometimes either influence or make an appearance in game. This has also happened with a couple of characters from Jay Kristoff novels.

My favorite shows/movies are

I like most fantasy shows/ movies as well as documentaries, action and real life based mainly on nature. I just liked to be entertained, and that I think leads to why I enjoying DMing.

How Tommy runs games

I feel I am a laid back dm, however I'm not a pushover. I allow rule of cool sparingly, and prefer a balanced style of game, however I feel I can adapt to any game players want. I usually start slow and increase tempo and intensity as players increase in levels. For me, having fun is the main reason we play.

I deal with rules issues by...

first speaking to the player and try to come up with a solution that everyone is happy with. If that doesn't work out, then I feel the next best way is to either roll a die, or flip a coin and go ahead with the decision, whether it goes in my favour or not.

My games focus on...

enjoyment! I like to have fun, and likewise my players to have fun- that's why we play the games in the first place.

Rules are...

closer to guidelines as opposed to hard and fast rules. if a rule doesn't fit a situation then I prefer to go with the flow and what feels right at the time.
