About Evie
My name is Evie and I am a queer gamer who loves to run games that are both enjoyable to play and safe to play in. I like to work with new and returning players. I currently know how to run 5th and 5.5th edition DnD games. I believe that table safety is important to start with and will always start with a session 0 to establish lines and veils so that I and other players do not cross any firm boundaries. This is vital to making sure the game is safe. While I currently use pre-written modules, I encourage players to explore off the beaten path and have spent some times in my games generating new content to help support my players on their own journeys as characters. My style is somewhere between emotionally grounded and zany, madcap adventures. I love to find the heart of comedy and drama alike. I think players who are creative, passionate, and a little wacky will do well in my campaigns. I also believe I work very well with new players as I have spent nearly 5 years as a teacher for young children and high schoolers. I bring the same care and attention to my players as I did my students.

I started running games because...
I wanted to play in safe games and knew that I had learned enough about table safety to provide that for my players. I also wanted to tell my own stories and let people live in the worlds I create.
My favorite books are
Sabriel by Garth Nix, Dreamsongs by George RR Martin, New Mutants original 80s run, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It's hard to do favorites!
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
patient, silly, and thoughtful.
How Evie runs games
I love the balance of all three pillars of DnD. I am an actor by trade and so love the character building portion of games. I think it is vital as a DM to serve as a sort of film director in order to guide players toward their ideal version of their characters. I think the best character work and story telling comes in the alternating between story, conflict, and exploration. During combat, I like to challenge my players to think creatively and work their idea of role playing into the fight. Combat is a tactical puzzle, indeed, but it is also a way for players to show their character in a very high stakes scenario. How do they describe defeating the monster? Do they hold back? Do they try to solve things with their fists or their mind? Together the three pillars serve to encourage players to create a living character in a world that has been meticulously designed as a role playing playground. Additionally, I have a special love for puzzles and riddles especially when they highlight a particular player's interests or skills. I love when the real world can intersect with the world of play.
Evie's ideal table
My table is very supportive for people who like to role play. I try to give space for players to interact with each other without prompting too much. Also, I can recognize when someone enjoys probing questions about their character and when to let them create on their own. I like to think I also build out story based on what people have told me about their characters even in pregenerated content. I also love combat and use it to challenge my players. If I notice a player wants to use a new skill, I try to give them opportunities to do that. Combat is its own way of demonstrating your character in the way that you choose to approach conflict. If I had to give a general vibe, I would say improvisation "yes and" is the vibe.
