About EpicSpydi

Hey everyone! Jan here, usually going by EpicSpydi online! I've been DM-ing since I ever started interacting with ttrpg's, running plenty of campaigns and oneshots in dnd 5e! Mostly ran games for various friends locally or online, however I have some experience of running paid games off the site as well! While I have played some games as a player too, my heart has always been close to DM-ing - being able to write up fun, silly or epic stories and getting to share that with all sorts of players has not only made many of my days much brighter, but it also contributed to a ton of good memories. I've also dabbled in some other systems, although I'm not nearly confident enough to run paid games in them, as I've been playing dnd 5e for almost my entire DM-ing career, and feel comfortable enough with it to homebrew all sorts of aspects, all with the intention of letting my players have more fun, as well as making the stories all the more epic! As for myself, I'm an avid polish nerd who gets into all sorts of hobbies and interests, always happy to learn new stuff and try things out! Currently early in my journey with studying biotechnology at uni, as well as whatever sidequests may come up, such as pokemon, game design, card games and many more! Have always been a fan of stories as well, whether it was hearing them or writing my own!

I became a GM because

I'm always curious to see what stories people will think of, and excited to make all sorts of memories with the party going off on their unusual antics as always, each more insane than the last

I got started GMing...

All the way back in high school, always watching Dimention: 20 and other podcasts, and consuming all sorts of guide videos daily (still do!). Ever since I've been trying to run as many games as I could, and learn whatever I could along the way!

When I'm not running games I'm...

usually working on a million other things at once! I often work on various video games with some of my friends as a writer / manager, I dabble in poetry, I'm also an electrical engineering student. Besides that I've got plenty of random hobbies, I'm heavily into indie games, board games, and so on!

How EpicSpydi runs games

The most important thing in whatever story I tell is always fun. At the end of the day, we're all gathering to play together and spend some quality time, which means I put extra effort into ensuring player comfort is as high as possible, as well as catering to player feedback to the best of my ability As for my style, I tend to run a balance of rp and combat (most sessions have usually a fight or two, though depends on the session!). Either way, I make sure to put emphasis and meaning into everything, whether it's an epic fight or a beach episode (because we can't forget about those). While I do tend to tailor the experience more towards the group's preferances, I personally love a good challange and a deep storyline - in my eyes, the best fights are ones won by lots of combined effort, and the most important aspect of any scene are the characters, whether it be PC's or NPC's. Another thing is character development - while the central plot may not revolve exclusively around the party, I ensure they'll have many chances to develop, grow and change as characters, allowing for larger and smaller arcs of high quality development. Another key thing is originality - I always run nearly fully homebrewed worlds, aiming to provide an exotic and fresh experience to any veterans, as well as ensuring it's simple enough where any new player could easily pick up the pace and have fun!

I deal with rules issues by...

listening to any and all feedback, and trying to find a satisfying middle ground for all parties included. I won't be tolerating active harrasement or hate, but if there's a case to be solved I'll find the best possible solution, pro bono

My games focus on...

telling an unforgettable story and making great memories as a group! Whether it be by romance, brutal combat, intense rp or a beach episode, the goal is always to make it memorable and to let all the characters shine in their own way, letting the players tell their story as they see fit

Rules are...

a good baseline of how things should run, but ultimetaly their goal is to make things fun. If a ruling would prevent an otherwise glorious scene because you can't move an extra 5 feet, you can bet I'll find a way to make your plan work!

EpicSpydi's ideal table

At my table, the most important thing I aim for is comfort - ultimately, no matter how the game goes I wish to make sure that everyone can get along well, on and off the campaign! This means I ensure a safe and chill enviorment, where both serious topics and silly debates can be held without issues As for the company, I'm open to veterans, newbies and all the folks in between! What matters to me is passion for storytelling and the game, with it the skill levels doesn't matter to me as much, as long as you have the want to actually learn the game! This also means that any players opting in for games with me that don't really care about them won't be accepted in the first place - a lot of effort goes into making all of the stories and I'm more than happy to cooperate with people, as long as they have the actual want to do so. As for the game, it's fully expected to joke around the table whenever hijinks ensue, and I would say it's a very friendly enviorment. However, there do come scenes where a more serious and stern approach is appreciated, especially when tension rises.

I love it when a player

suggets a creative idea, even if the rules would prohibit it! Whenever someone thinks outside the box, I'm more than willing to bend the rules or figure out some other complications to help the plan go through, as I think it makes for a much more fun experience!

I think min/maxing...

is fine, as long as you don't intend to "win" the game. Even if the party has a varied power level, I don't mind designing encounters in a way where everyone is adequately challanged. After all, stats and abilities are not all there is to a character's strength!

My perfect party mix is

folks that have a good sense of humor and are able to joke around, while also treating the game and the characters with respect, changing their tone to fit the scene and mood
