About Joshua
My name is Joshua Algarin and I've been playing, then GMing various table tops, starting with DnD 2e, for almost 25 years now. I've played most of the DnD systems, as well as Pathfinder 1e and generally have run and created home brewed campaign worlds or changes to existing ones. I've also used a number of online tools for games when in person ones became difficult and mostly use Fantasy Grounds now. I've run a number of online tables now, mostly as a GM, anywhere from one shots to much longer form games. I also have run play by post games for people that couldn't make a set schedule work and want to focus more on the roleplay and storytelling aspect of the game.

I became a GM because
I GM because I like to tell stories and, more importantly, help other people tell their own stories. It can be daunting to do it yourself, but it becomes easier working in a group.
My favorite system of all Time is
Pathfinder 1e, it offers so many options to allow people to make exactly what they want, whether it's a new idea or trying to recreate a character they love or admire.
People are always surprised when I tell them
I've been a kitchen designer for around 12 years. I've worked in other positions in home improvement/design as well, and those actually feature in my games.
How Joshua runs games
I try to tailor my style to what the table wants, but strive to create interesting combat and roleplay scenarios both. You won't be fighting creatures copied exactly out of source material all the time and though combat is balance you'll have to stay on your toes. I also enjoy taking the characters backstory, with their agreement, and adding interesting and unexpected elements to that to help make the characters and players grow during the game. I generally use homebrew and self crafted worlds and adventures rather than prebuilt ones because I feel this also lets the players have more impact in the world, their actions do and will change the world around them, like a true adventurers would.

I prep by
I prep by going over the last sessions with players and seeing what they might be interested in doing in the future to help their character and gameplay grow. I also make sure to check and balance encounters so they are not too easy or too difficult.
My favorite trope is...
The himbo swordsmen/adventurer. This world is too dark a place now and needs characters like that to bring some light to it.
My games focus on...
My games feature unique, player-driven encounters, both in combat and role-playing scenarios. I want to make sure each character and each player has a chance to shine in the situations they find most interesting
Joshua 's ideal table
My ideal table(or board) would depend on the players there and what they want. At the end of the day, I want everyone to have a good time with the game, be able to play what and how they want, and work together as a team. I would like players who see their characters and the world around them as more than just numbers on the page and want to breathe life into the game.
